Griffins Advance to First Ever NCAA Atlantic Regional Final

Seton Hill continued NCAA Atlantic Regional action on Friday evening as they battled second seed Gannon at Wheeling Jesuit University.  Just like last Saturday the Griffins rallied to defeat the Knights in five sets.  This time the Griffins rallied from two sets down to win the final three sets.  With the win the Griffins advance to their first ever NCAA Atlantic Regional Final.  SHU is now 26-8 on the season and winners of thirteen straight.  Gannon ends their season at 31-3. 
 
Gannon jumped out to an early 5-1 lead over the Griffins in the first set.  A Knights service error and back to back Viktoria Farian kills trimmed the lead to 6-5.  Kills from Farian and Rachel Satira tied the set at nine.  A Knights hitting error gave SHU their first lead of the set at 10-9.  Two straight from Gannon gave the Knights a 14-12 lead.  Jessica Hanson and Satira combined on a block to end a Knights run and cut the lead to 19-16.  Cameron Baril kept the Griffins in the set with a kill to trim the lead to 22-18.  Bisignani saved a set point with a kill at 24-19.  Gannon took the first set with a 25-19 win. 
 
Baril got the Griffins on the board with a kill to make it 2-1 early in the second set.  Three more from the Knights forced the first timeout for the Griffins in the set, trailing 5-1.  Gannon continued the momentum and built a 9-2 lead forcing the Griffins to take their second timeout of the set.  Kills from Farian and Sidney Chapman cut the Knights lead to 16-11.  A Gannon hitting error forced a Knights timeout at 16-12.  Farian followed with an ace to cut the lead to 16-13 as SHU went on a 4-0 run.  Gannon scored three straight before SHU ran off three straight to make it 19-16.  Chapman cut the lead to 20-17.  Farian kept the Griffins alive with a kill at 24-19.  Baril followed with an ace to cut the lead to 24-20.  Another ace made it 24-21 as the Knights used their last timeout.  Make it three straight aces and SHU trailed 24-22.  Gannon took the set by a 25-22 score to take a 2-0 lead. 
 
The Griffins scored the first three points of the third set to take a 3-0 lead.  The teams were tied at six early in the set.  Farian and Hanson combined on a block to tie the set at eight.  Back to back Farian aces gave SHU a 10-8 lead.  Gannon scored four of the next five points to take a 12-11 lead.  Hanson and Chapman combined on a block to tie the set at 12.  Two straight from Gannon gave the Knights a 15-13 lead.  Farian got the first Griffin kill of the set to trim the lead to 15-14.  Another Farian kill cut the lead to 16-15.  Farian and Hanson combined on a block to tie it at 16.  A Gannon hitting error made it 17-16 in favor of the Griffins.  Farian put the Griffins back in front 18-17.  Another Gannon hitting error gave SHU a 19-17 lead and the Knights used their first timeout.  Jillian Livorse gave SHU a 20-19 lead.  A Gannon error increased the lead to 21-19.  Three straight from the Knights and they retook the lead 22-21.  A service error for the Knights tied the set at 22.  Livorse gave the Griffins a 23-22 lead with a kill.  Bisignani gave SHU a set point at 24-22.  A Gannon service error gave SHU the set and cut the Gannon lead to 2-1 with a 25-23 Griffin win. 
 
Bisignani gave the Griffins an early 2-1 lead in the fourth set.  Four straight from Farian gave SHU a 6-2 lead.  A Bisignani ace gave SHU a 7-2 lead and the Knights used their first timeout.  Farian's last second punch gave SHU an 8-3 lead.  An ace from Sabol gave SHU a 10-5 lead.  Two more Gannon errors extended the lead to 12-5.  Baril extended the lead to 13-7.  Two straight from Gannon cut the lead to 13-9 but a service error increased the lead to 14-9.  Another Knights error gave SHU the five point lead back at 15-10.  Two straight from the Knights force a SHU timeout with the Griffins in the lead 15-12.  Hanson and Farian combined on a block and SHU led 17-12.  A solo stuff from Satira extended the lead to 18-12 and Gannon took their last timeout.  Farian continued the run with a kill and SHU led 19-12.  Brynn Fleury put a kill down to make it 20-12.  After a Gannon point, Satira kept the lead at eight (21-13) with a kill.  Five straight from the Knights made it 21-18.  Livorse ended the run with a kill to give SHU a 22-18 lead.  Hanson gave SHU a 23-19 lead with a kill.  Livorse gave SHU a set point and Bisignani and Baril finished off the set with a block to send us to a fifth and deciding set. 
 
A Gannon service error gave SHU the 1-0 lead.  Livorse followed with an ace to make it 2-0.  Farian gave SHU a 3-2 lead.  Satira followed with a kill to make it 4-2.  Another Gannon error gave SHU a 5-2 lead and the Knights used a timeout.  Fleury put one over on two to take a 7-3 lead.  Two straight from Gannon trimmed the lead to 7-5.  A Gannon service error gave SHU an 8-5 lead at the turn.  Two straight from the Knights cut the SHU lead to 8-7 and the Griffins used a timeout.  Gannon tied the set at eight with a kill.  A Knight service error gave SHU a 9-8 lead.  Baril put SHU back in front 10-9.  Bisignani put SHU in front 11-10.  Farian off the block put SHU in front 12-11.  Satira made it 13-11 and Gannon took their last timeout.  A Gannon service error gave SHU set point.  Farian and Hanson combined on a block to send the Griffins to their first ever Atlantic Regional Final. 
 
Viktoria Farian led the Griffins with 17 kills. Cameron Baril and Rachel Satira each added 7 kills. Jessica Hanson led SHU with 7 blocks. Taylor Sabol and Brynn Fleury each had 17 assists. Hannah Moeller paced the Griffins with 26 digs.
 
The Griffins will meet the winner of the Clarion and Wheeling Jesuit semifinal in tomorrow's regional final at 7 PM.
