Heartbreak in Wheeling; Magical Run Ends in Regional Final

Seton Hill played in its first NCAA Atlantic Regional final as they battled top seeded and host Wheeling Jesuit on Saturday evening.  Seton Hill took the first two sets but the Cardinals showed why they are 12th in the country and they roared back to end the Griffins season in five sets.  SHU ends the season with a 26-9 record while the Cardinals improve to 37-3. 
 
Rachel Satira got the Griffins on the board with the first kill of the match.  Wheeling took the first two point lead of the set at 6-4.  Satira won a joust at the net and gave SHU a 7-6 lead.  Viktoria Farian followed with a stuff at the net and SHU went on a 4-0 run to take a 8-6 lead.  Two more from the Griffins forced a Wheeling timeout with SHU leading 10-6.  Leah Bisignani continued the run with a kill and SHU led 12-6.  Fleury sent one over on two and SHU led 14-9.  Satira answered a 2-0 WJU run to push the lead to 15-11 in the first set.  Livorse followed with a kill and SHU led 16-11.  Another WJU attack error extended the Griffins lead to 17-11 and the Cardinals took their second timeout.  Three more for the Griffins made it 20-11.  They extended their lead to ten at 22-12.  Bisignani made it 23-13 with a kill.  Another Bisignani kill gave SHU set point at 24-14.  Farian gave the Griffins the first set with a kill and SHU took a 1-0 lead with a 25-15 win. 
 
Livorse ended a long rally on the first point of the second set with a kill out of the back.  Farian made it 2-0 with a kill.  A Wheeling hitting error made it 3-0.  Farian answered a WJU kill with one of her own and SHU led 4-1 early.  Hanson and Farian combined on a block to give SHU a 5-1 lead.  SHU built the lead to 7-2 and the Cardinals were forced to take another timeout.  Parks gave SHU a 9-3 lead with another kill.  Bisignani and Livorse combined on a block to give SHU an 11-4 lead.  Four straight from the Cardinals forced a SHU timeout with the Griffins still leading 11-8.  Parks ended the run with a kill and SHU led 12-8.  Satira kept the lead at four with a kill and Hanson and Farian combined on a kill to give SHU a 15-10 lead.  A WJU error made the score 16-10.  Farian tooled the block to extend the lead to 17-11.  Livorse followed with a kill and SHU led 18-11.  Satira ended a 2-0 Cardinal run with a kill to push the lead to 19-13.  Livorse got the Griffins to 20 (20-14) with a kill.  Bisignani ended another 2-0 WJU run with a kill and SHU led 22-17.  Satira made it 23-17 with a kill.  An ace from Fleury gave SHU set point at 24-17.  Farian pounded down an overpass and SHU took a 2-0 lead with a 25-17 second set win. 
 
Wheeling got the first point of the third set but Livorse answered right back with a kill.  Livorse dropped one on the line to end a 2-0 Wheeling run and cut the Wheeling lead to 3-2.  Parks tied the set at three with a kill.  Wheeling scored the next two points before Livorse got a kill to cut the lead to 5-4.  Two more from Wheeling gave the Cardinals a 7-4 lead.  Wheeling pushed their lead to 9-5 before Farian trimmed the lead to 9-6.  Wheeling ran off three straight points to force a SHU timeout trailing 12-6.   A Wheeling hitting error ended the run and got SHU back to within 14-7.  Farian followed with an ace to cut the lead to 14-8.  Hanson and Parks got a block to cut the lead to 16-10.  Parks made it 16-11 and the Cardinals took a timeout.  Parks put another one down and SHU trailed 18-13.  A kill from Farian forced the second WJU timeout with the Griffins trailing 19-14.  Fleury sent one over on two to cut the lead to 20-16.  Livorse followed and SHU trailed 20-17.  Satira trimmed the lead to 21-18 with a kill.  Parks off the block trimmed the lead to 22-19.  Wheeling cut the Griffins lead to 2-1 with a 25-19 third set win. 
 
Wheeling showed why they are 12th in the country as they took a 7-0 lead to start the fourth set.  Farian put the Griffins on the board with a kill.  Bisignani and Hanson combined on a block to cut the lead to 8-2.  Farian followed with a kill and SHU trailed 8-3.  Hanson and Satira got a block to cut the lead to 9-4.  A WJU hitting error got the Griffins back to within four at 10-6.  Parks found an open spot on the court and SHU trailed 11-7.  Four straight for Wheeling increased their lead to 15-7 and SHU was forced to use their second timeout.  Back to back kills from Cameron Baril and Bisignani cut the lead to 18-9.  Bisignani and Hanson followed with a block to make it 19-11.  Farian ended a 2-0 Cardinal run to make it 21-12.  Wheeling sent the match to the fifth set with a 25-13 fourth set win. 
 
Farian put one off the block to tie the fifth set at one.  Farian tied the set at three with a kill.  Livorse tied the set at four with a kill.  Hanson and Parks got a block and SHU led 5-4.  Livorse evened the set at six with a kill.  Two straight from the Cardinals gave them an 8-6 lead at the turn.  Another point gave them a 9-6 lead.  Livorse made it 9-7 with a kill.  Wheeling used their first timeout with a 9-7 lead.  Out of the timeout, the Cardinals ran off two straight to force a SHU timeout, trailing 11-7.  Farian hit one off the block to make it 11-8.  Farian and Bisignani got a block to make it 11-9.  Bisignani made it 11-10 with a kill. Farian tied the set at 11 with a kill.  Another Farian kill gave SHU a 12-11 lead.  Two straight from the Cardinals gave them a 13-12 lead and SHU used its last timeout.  The Cardinals eliminated the Griffins in the fifth set with a 15-12 win. 
 
Four Griffins reach double figures in kills led by Viktoria Farian with 21. Erin Parks added 13, Jillian Livorse 12 and Rachel Satira 10.  Brynn Fleury led SHU with 29 assists while Taylor Sabol finished with 27.  Farian led SHU with 21 digs.  Hannah Moeller finished with 18 digs.  Jessica Hanson led the Griffins with 5 blocks.
