PSAC CHAMPS!! Griffins Win First Ever PSAC Crown

For the first time in school history the Seton Hill volleyball team has won a PSAC Championship.  The Griffins defeated Gannon 3-2 in front of a crazy crowd to earn their first over crown.  SHU is now 24-8 on the season. 
 
The match started off with the teams exchanging points until Gannon took a 5-3 lead.  SHU got two back to tie the set at five.  After Gannon scored two points, Viktoria Farian got her first kill of the match to trim the Knights lead to 7-6.  Gannon went on a 3-0 run to take a 10-7 lead before Farian cut the lead to 10-8 with a kill.  Leah Bisignani followed with an ace to make it 10-9.  Two straight aces from the Knights pushed their lead to 14-10.  Sidney Chapman cut the lead to 14-11 with a kill.  Erin Parks followed with a kill and SHU trailed 14-12.  Chapman and Jessica Hanson then got a block to trim the lead to one.  Hanson put down an overpass to tie the set at 14 and force a Gannon timeout.  Back to back kills from Bisignani and Parks tied the set at 16.  Three straight from Gannon forced another Griffin timeout.  After a SHU point, the Knights ran off four straight to take a 23-17 lead.  Gannon took a 1-0 lead with a 25-17 first set win. 
 
A service error and a kill from Farian tied the second set at two.   Two straight kills from Jillian Livorse gave SHU an early 6-4 lead.  A Gannon hitting error followed by a Brynn Fleury kill gave the Griffins an early 8-4 lead in the second set.  Hanson and Rachel Satira got a block to give SHU a 6-0 run and a 9-4 lead.  The Griffins continued the momentum with a Taylor Sabol ace combined with a Gannon error and the Griffins led 12-5.  Parks and Bisignani combined on another block to give SHU a 15-8 lead.  The Knights then went on a 5-0 run to force a Griffin timeout at 15-13.  A kill from Satira gave the Griffins a four point lead back at 17-13.  Farian put one down to push the lead back to five.  An ace from Chapman gave SHU a 24-17 lead.  A Parks tip gave SHU the set and tied the match at one with a 25-19 second set win. 
 
After the Griffins scored the first point of the third set, Gannon scored the next five points to take a 5-1 lead forcing the Griffins to take an early timeout.  Gannon continued to run and the Griffins took their second timeout trailing 8-1.  Farian ended the 8-0 run with a kill.  A Satira kill and a block from Farian and Hanson cut the lead to 10-4.  Back to back blocks from the Griffins trimmed the Knights lead to 23-13 and forced the Knights to use a timeout.  Out of the timeout Farian and Bisignani got kills to cut the lead to 23-15.  The Knights took a 2-1 lead in the match with a 25-15 third set win. 
 
Parks and Bisignani opened the fourth set with a block.  Chapman followed with an ace while Bisignani had two straight kills to give SHU an early 4-0 lead.  Farian and Bisignani combined for a block and two Gannon errors gave SHU a 7-1 lead and forced a Gannon timeout.  Satira and Bisignani combined on a block as the Griffins continued the block party in the fourth set.  Farian made it 9-2 early in the set.  Back to back kills from Chapman extended the SHU lead to 11-3.  A Bisignani kill ended a 4-1 Gannon run and extended the SHU lead to 14-8.  Gannon got to within four at 15-11 and the Griffins took a timeout.  Farian's kill gave SHU a 16-12 lead.  Hanson's kill pushed the lead back to five at 18-13 and the Knights used their second timeout.  Hanson kept the lead at five with a kill and SHU led 20-15.  Three straight from the Knights forced a SHU timeout at 20-18.  Baril's got a kill on an insane rally to put SHU in front 21-19.  Back to back service errors from each team gave SHU a 23-21 lead.  Satira and Bisignani combined on a block to send the match to the fifth set with a 25-21 Griffin fourth set win. 
 
A ball handling error on the Knights started off the fifth set.  Two straight from the Knights gave them a 2-1 lead.  Bisignani and Farian combined on a block to tie it at two.  After the Gannon assistant got a red card and SHU got a point, they then got a block to take a 4-3 lead.  Gannon being in the net gave SHU a 5-4 lead.  Chapman pounded an overpass to put SHU in front 6-4.  Baril gave SHU a 7-6 lead with a kill off a long rally.  A Gannon hitting error gave SHU an 8-6 lead at the turn.  Bisignani pounded a ball to the floor and SHU led 9-6.  Another Baril kill made it 10-6.  Bisignani made it 11-7 with a kill.  Farian's solo block pushed the lead to 12-8.  Bisignani pounded an overpass to give SHU a 13-8 lead.  Two straight from the Knights cut the Griffin lead to 13-10.  A Gannon ace made it 13-11.  A Gannon service error made it 14-11 but two Gannon points cut the lead to 14-13.   Satira put the final ball away to give the Griffins their title. 
 
Farian led the Griffins with 11 kills.  Satira and Hanson each had 6 kills.  Bisignani, Chapman and Parks each finished with 5 kills.  Fleury added 19 assists and 10 digs.  Bisignani finished with 11 blocks.  Farian led the Griffins with 20 digs.
 
SHU will find out their NCAA Tournament fate on Sunday night at 10 PM when the selection show is on.
