Penalty Kicks Lift SHU Past Gannon In PSAC Quarterfinals

ERIE, PA. -  A 1-1 tie through the first 110 minutes of play, the Seton Hill University men's soccer team defeated three-seeded Gannon University in the first round of the 2018 Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference tournament, 5-4, in penalty kicks Tuesday evening.

// NOTABLES
• SHU avenges a 2-0 loss to Gannon on October 2nd of this year, and moves to 3-4-1 since against the Golden Knights (since 2008).
• Seton Hill and Millersville battled to a 1-1 tie earlier this year in a game played at Dick's Sporting Goods Field in Greensburg.
• Gannon outshot Seton Hill by a 19-9 margin, but the two teams had seven (7) shots on goal apiece.
Austin Iddon had six saves in the contest.

// INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
•  Archie Lock broke a scoreless tie when he scored off a Henrik Berg assist in the 81st minute of the game to give SHU a 1-0 lead.
• Gannon's Ben Andrews knotted the game up at 1-1 just two minutes later off of a rebound.
• Both teams stayed scoreless throughout both overtime periods with both goalkeepers grabbing two saves in the second overtime.

// PK'S
• The shootout started off with a goalkeeper versus goalkeeper matchup as Austin Iddon bested Hedi Mehnaoui to put SHU on the board.
• Gannon's Sam Thornton missed the following attempt, but Henrik Berg missed his shot.
Archie Lock, Colin Watson, Jack Wardale, and John Trollsas each made good on their attempts, and finally Martin N-V Aanestad missed Gannon's last attempt and the Griffins emerged victorious, 5-4. 

// NEXT UP
• The Griffins will now travel to host West Chester University (West Chester, PA) to take on Millersville in the Semifinals on Friday.
