Game Recap: Women's Soccer |

Neast, Neill Navigate Griffins to PSAC Postseason

The Griffins hosted #8 Kutztown on Saturday afternoon looking to secure a PSAC postseason berth.  SHU used a goal from Alyssa Neast and eight saves from Jessica Neill in route to a 1-0 victory over the Golden Bears.  SHU is now 11-4-1 overall and 10-4-1 in PSAC play.  Kutztown falls to 13-3 overall and 11-3 in PSAC play.

With the victory, the Griffins clinch their second straight PSAC Tournament appearance.  Seeding for the tournament will be determined by the games played next week.  The top four seeds will host a PSAC Quarterfinal on Tuesday, October 30th.

In the 23rd minute of the game, Neill made an unbelievable diving save to keep the game scoreless.  She dove to her left and reached up to push the ball past the corner of the net.  A late sub in the first half then proved to be the difference in the game.  Alyssa Neast subbed on at the 31:37 mark of the first half.  Just 37 seconds later, Neast found the ball at the top of the box and blasted a shot thru the KU keeper's hands to give the Griffins a 1-0 lead.  Katie Kimmich assisted on the goal.  Both teams registered six shots in the first half with Neill making 3 saves.

The second half was mostly controlled by Kutztown but the Griffins had a few runs of play to limit the Kutztown chances.  Kutztown outshot the Griffins by a 9-8 margin in the half.  Neill made 5 saves in the half.

Italia Biondi led the Griffins with 4 shots.  Madison Schwerzler added 3 while Sawyer Patrick and Emily LoPresti each added two.  Neill picked up her sixth shutout of the season with 8 saves.

The Griffins will close out the regular season with a road matchup at Clarion on Wednesday evening at 7 PM.
