Seton Hill hosted Pitt Johnstown on Sunday afternoon for Senior Day as they honored eight seniors before the game. The Griffins used an own goal from UPJ to secure a 1-0 victory. SHU is now 9-4-1 overall and 8-4-1 in PSAC play.
The Griffins outshot the Mountain Cats 13-2 in the first half but could not beat the UPJ keeper who finished the half with 7 saves. SHU also had a 4-0 advantage in corner kicks in the half. SHU just missed in the 28th minute.
Emily LoPresti's free kick was stopped by the keeper but
Amy Lynch jumped on the rebound and just pushed it wide of the post, nearly missing giving the Griffins a 1-0 lead.
SHU nearly took a 1-0 lead in the 68th minute but
Madison Schwerzler's shot was cleared from the line by a UPJ defender. The Griffins finally got on the scoreboard in the 80th minute when a long ball into the box was knocked into their own net by a UPJ defender giving the Griffins a 1-0 lead. SHU outshot the Cats 21-3 in the second half.
Jessica Neill finished with 1 save in the shutout win. Both
Emily LoPresti and
Italia Biondi each finished the game with 10 shots. LoPresti had 6 shots on goal.
The Griffins will return to action on Wednesday evening when they travel to Edinboro for a 6 PM start.
