Volleyball Falls To Clarion In Five Sets

CLARION, PA. -  The Seton Hill University women's volleyball team fell to Clarion University, 3-0 (25-19, 24-26, 18-25, 25-16, 12-15), in Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference action Saturday afternoon in Clarion.

// NOTABLES
• Seton Hill now stands with a record of 13-8 overall and 7-4 in the PSAC.
• Clarion improves to 16-8 overall, 7-4 in the PSAC.
Viktoria Farian led SHU with a 16 kills, Jillian Livorse had two aces, Hannah Moeller was credited for 25 digs, and Jessica Hanson led the SHU blocking effort with a season-high six total blocks.

// FIRST SET
•  After falling behind early in the first set, the Griffins captured the lead when they turned a 7-5 deficit a 10-7 lead. During the run, Jillian Livorse had a kill and two aces. SHU would not relinquish that lead and go on to win the set, 25-19. 

// SECOND SET
• Down by a score of 22-16, Seton Hill would go on a 4-0 run to get back into the second set. Kills from Taylor Sabol, Leah Bisignani, Rachel Satira, and another from Bisignani seemed to swing the momentum back in the favor of the Red and Gold. A kill by Clarion's Lauryn Driscoll made it 23-20, but the Griffins went on a 4-1 run to even the score at 24-24. However, attack errors from Farian and Hanson led to the Clarion win, 26-24.

// THIRD SET
•  Looking at a 22-14 deficit in the third set, the Griffins outscored Clarion by a 4-1 margin to pull to within five, 23-18. However, Clarion would score the next two and take the third set, 25-18. 

// FOURTH SET
•  With the fourth set tied at 5-5, Seton Hill would score the next eight points before Clarion scored to make it 13-6. The Golden Eagles went on a run of their own, outscoring Seton Hill 7-1 to make it 14-13. However, SHU would deflate the momentum and gain some distance 9-1 run on their way to the 25-16 win. 

// FIFTH SET
•  The two teams battled a fifth and final set that featured three lead changes and six ties as neither team could sustain momentum for long. The Griffins jumped out to a 7-4 lead with kills by Jillian Livorse and an ace from Taylor Sabol, but the Golden Eagles would go on a 6-1 run to take a 10-8 lead. A Clarion service error halted the momentum, and eventually back-to-back kills by Farian evened the game at 12-12. Clarion would score the next three to win the contest.
