Rally Comes up Short in Road Loss at Gannon

The Griffins trailed by as many as sixteen points in the first half and battled back to take a 41-39 lead but it was not enough in a 75-60 road loss at Gannon on Monday evening.  After SHU took the 41-39 lead, the Knights outscored the Griffins 36-19 over the final nineteen minutes for the win.  SHU falls to 5-9 overall and 2-7 in PSAC action while the Knights improve to 9-5 overall and 5-3 in PSAC play.

A jumper from Nathan Davis gave SHU a 7-6 lead two minutes into the contest.  Back to back buckets from Tyler Bowling pushed the Griffins lead to 11-8 at the first media timeout of the half.  Over the next four minutes, the Knights outscored the Griffins 12-0 to take a 20-11 lead.  Davis hit a free throw before the Knights went on an 8-0 run to built their lead to 28-12 with 6:16 to play in the half.  The Griffins responded and held the Knights scoreless over the next six minutes and outscored them 12-0 to cut the lead to 28-24 at the half.  Bowling had 8 points at the half and Trevor Lecuona added 6 points.

Lecuona hit a jumper to trim the lead to two at the start of the second half.  Gannon answered with a 9-3 run to build their lead back to 37-29 with 17:19 to play.  With Gannon leading 39-32, the Griffins hit three straight three pointers, two by Davis to take a 41-39 lead with 14:19 left in the half.  The Knights responded with a 14-0 run over a four minute stretch to take a 53-41 lead.  The Griffins would get no closer than nine points the rest of the way.

Four Griffins reached double figures led by Nathan Davis with 13 points. Trevor Blondin and Trevor Lecuona with 12 points each. Milenko Predic finished with 10 points.

SHU returns to action on Wednesday when they travel to Mercyhurst for another PSAC West contest.
