Davis, Blondin Lift SHU Past Clarion

GREENSBURG, PA. - Nathan Davis scored 23 and Trevor Blondin added 22 as the Seton Hill University men's basketball team used a big second-half run to upend Clarion University, 93-74, in Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference action Saturday afternoon inside the Katherin Mabis McKenna Center. 

Seton Hill improves to 5-8 overall and 2-6 in PSAC play. Clarion slips to 3-11 overall and 0-8 in the conference.

Clarion started off the game as hot as they could have been, making their first seven shots to open up a 17-9 lead with 14:52 on the clock. The Griffins would fight back with a three from Trevor Blondin, but Clarion would continue to hit shots and balloon the lead out to 11, 23-12, with 12:54 remaining in the half. Spencer Casson's jumper in the paint cut the lead to nine, and an offensive rebound on the following possession led to a layup to make it 23-16 with just under 12 minutes to play in the half. Seton Hill would continue to chip away at the Clarion lead and finally broke through with three's by Brandon Alston and Nathan Davis to make it 43-41 in favor of the Griffins with 2:00 remaining. Clarion's Brandon Williams would quickly tie the game, but Davis regained the lead with a layup on the other end to make it 45-43 with 1:12 on the clock. However, William's would make one-of-two freethrows with 28 seconds remaining and the two teams headed into the locker rooms all tied up, 45-45.

The Griffins used a strong early second half to turn the tie ballgame into a double-digit lead in the first seven minute of the game. Tyler Bowling started off the frame with back-to-back layups off of offensive rebounds. After Clarion's Mason Mraz hit one of two freethrows, Nathan Davis hit a three-ball on the other end to give Seton Hill a four point lead, 52-48, with 18:12 on the clock. Trevor Blondin's three on the heels of a Clarion turnover gave SHU their largest lead of the day, 55-48, with 17:2 remaining. Clarion would get two free-throws and a layup to cut the lead to three, 55-52, but Bowling would strike again with a two layups to end the Golden Eagle run. Anthony Karabatsos' trey following a missed Clarion jumper made it 62-52 with 15:05 on the clock. The Griffins would not look back, winning the game by a score of 93-74.

Davis led all scorers with 23 points on 9-of-15 shooting, including 3-of-7 from three. Trevor Blondin chipped in 22 points, Tyler Bowling came away with 19 points, and Milenko Predic nearly missed a double-double with nine points and a game-high 13 rebounds. 

Brandon Williams (22), Khari Williams (14), Mason Mraz (13), Zavyer Craft (10), Cameron Grumley (10) all scored in double-figures for the Golden Eagles. 

Seton Hill returns to the hardwood on Monday, Jan 8th when they travel to Erie, Pa. to take on Gannon University. Tip-off is set for 7:30 PM.
