Seton Hill closed out their Labor Day weekend trip in South Carolina as they took on Converse College on Sunday afternoon at Spartanburg High School. SHU build a 2-0 lead at the half and added a second half goal for a 3-1 win. Head coach
Kyla Dickson earned her first win as head coach at Seton Hill. The Griffins finished the trip with a 1-1 record.
The Griffins had a couple of early penalty corners but could not capitalize on them. SHU took advantage of a penalty corner in the 22nd minute.
Caitlin Bray inserted the corner and
Rachael Cobo banged home a rebound to give the Griffins a 1-0 lead with 13:46 remaining in the first half. Just over four minutes later, the Griffins increased their lead to 2-0.
Maia Cheeks scored her first collegiate goal when she finished a pass from
Molly Childress to put SHU in front 2-0 with 9:41 remaining in the first half. The Griffins out shot Converse 6-1 in the half and held a 4-2 advantage in penalty corners.
Converse got on the scoreboard just under 15 minutes into the second half. They used a penalty corner and put in a rebound after an
Elizabeth Armbruster save on the original shot. SHU pushed their lead back to two with a goal off another corner.
Mackenzie Nalepa hit
Kayla Chapman off the corner and Chapman went right back to Nalepa who scored the third goal of the game with just 1:45 to play in the contest.
Seton Hill out shot Converse by an 11-5 margin in the game. SHU also held a 10-2 advantage in corners.
The Griffins will travel to Indiana (PA) on Wednesday for a 7 PM contest.
