Volleyball Rolls Past East Stroudsburg, 3-0

GREENSBURG, Pa. - Viktoria Farian had a season-high 13 kills and Leah Bisignani chipped in 12 of her own as the Seton Hill University women's volleyball team defeated East Stroudsburg in straight sets (25-15, 25-29, 25-23) in Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference action Friday evening inside of the McKenna Center at Seton Hill University.

The Griffins improve to 9-3 overall and 2-1 in the PSAC. East Stroudsburg slips to 10-4 overall and 1-2 in PSAC play.

In game one, the Griffins had the first two points, but ESU fired back with three straight of their own to grab an early 3-2 lead. After three straight for SHU, the Warriors had two of their own to tie the game at 5-5. However, an ESU attack error and two kills by Leah Bisignani helped Seton Hill build an 8-5 lead. After East Stroudsburg eventually tied the game at 12-12, the Griffins would outscore ESU, 13-3, on their way to the 25-15 win.

In the second game, the Griffins built a 3-0 lead but eventually East Stroudsburg would even the score at 4-4. A kill and an ace by Seton Hill's Maggie Murray followed by an ESU error and a Bisignani kill gave Seton Hill an 8-4 cushion. That would prove the turning point as Seton Hill would contain the ESU offensive attack en route to the 25-19 win.

Game three mirrored the first two with Seton Hill grabbing the early lead, 2-0. However, East Stroudsburg would gain momentum and rattle off five straight and outscore SHU 8-1 to take an 8-3 lead. Two Warrior attack errors followed by a Bisignani kill and another ESU error got the Griffins to within one, 8-7. Following an ESU timeout, the Warriors scored but a service error and kills by Erin Parks and Viktoria Farian gave Seton Hill their first lead since the start of the game, 10-9. From there the two teams would battle with East Stroudsburg eventually gaining the upper hand and leading 20-18. However, kills by Jessica Beal and Farian allowed Seton Hill gave Seton Hill new life. After an ESU kill, Beal struck again with a kill and an attack error by ESU gave Seton Hill the lead, 22-21. A Seton Hill attack error tied the game, 22-22, but a kill by Sidney Chapman followed by a service ace from Mary Baich put Seton Hill ahead, 24-22. ESU would make one last push with a kill to pull within one, 24-23, but Lead Bisignani's kill from Maggie Murray put away the Warriors, 25-23.

For the match, Seton Hill had 49 kills compared to 33 for East Stroudsburg. The two teams had four aces apiece. ESU had five blocks with Seton Hill having four. The Griffins tallied 38 assists and 57 digs while the Warriors had 30 assists and 50 digs, respectively.

Seton Hill returns to action on Saturday afternoon when they take on Kutztown University. That match is scheduled for a 1:00 PM start.
