Seton Hill played its fourth game in eight days on Sunday as they hosted Califonia (PA) in a PSAC contest at Dick's Sporting Goods Field. Seton Hill scored twice in the first half and
Jessica Neill and the Griffin defense posted their fifth shutout of the season in a 2-0 win. The Griffins improve to 6-2-1 overall and 4-2-1 in PSAC play while the Vulcans drop to 1-6-1 overall and 0-5 in PSAC play.
The Griffins got on the board first on their second shot of the game.
Melanie Renda sent a perfect thru ball to
Syaani Harris who beat her defender then beat the keeper with a shot into the corner of the net. SHU took the 1-0 lead in the 14th minute of action. Seton Hill made it 2-0 in the 27th minute.
Emily LoPresti and
Madison Schwerzler executed a perfect give and go near the top of the box with Schwerzler setting up LoPresti with a wide open look from the top of the box. The Griffins held a 5-2 lead in shots in the first half.
SHU dominated the shots statistic in the second half, holding an 11-2 advantage but could not find the back of the net to extend their lead. The defense and Neill preserved the fifth shutout of the season.
Neill recorded one save in net.
SHU will continue PSAC play on Wednesday when they travel to Slippery Rock. Both teams enter the contest with identical 4-2-1 records in PSAC play.
