The Griffin volleyball team opened their 2017 season at the Virginia State Tournament in Petersburg, VA this weekend. SHU made sure it was a successful trip as they won all four matches over the weekend by a 3-0 score.
SHU opened with a 3-0 win over Alderson Broaddus on Friday afternoon. The Griffins opened with a 25-17 win and followed that with a 25-11 and 25-22 win to complete the sweep. Seton Hill then defeated Virginia Wise by a 3-0 score. SHU took the first set 25-21. The Griffins closed out the match with 25-15 and 25-14 wins.
On Saturday, the Griffins opened the day by taking on the host Virginia State. SHU took all three sets by a 25-18 score for the sweep. They closed out the tourney by taking on Union (TN). The first set was close as SHU won 25-23. SHU pulled away for a 25-12 win in the second set and closed out the day with a 25-19 win.
Katie Wenson led the Griffins with 9 kills in the Alderson Broaddus match.
Viktoria Farian added 8 kills. Wenson also added 4 blocks.
Maggie Murray finished with 15 assists.
Hannah Moeller had 10 digs and
Jillian Livorse and
Mary Baich added 9.
Farian finished the Virginia Wise match with 9 kills. She also added 11 digs.
Leah Bisignani added 8 kills. Murray led with 17 assists. Moeller led with 17 digs and Livorse finished with 10 digs.
Farian again led the Griffins in kills in the Virginia State match, finishing with 12. She also added 11 digs for her second double double. Murray ended the match with 13 assists and 6 kills.
Jenna Sassack and Livorse added 4 kills. Moeller also added 11 digs.
Bisignani was nearly perfect in the match against Union. She finished with 11 kills in 16 attempts with 0 errors. Farian finished with her third double double of the tourney as she had 17 digs and 10 kills.
Erin Parks also contributed 6 kills. Murray had 16 assists and
Brynn Fleury added 15. Moeller had 16 digs.
The Griffins return to action next weekend at the Walsh Cavalier Classic on Friday and Saturday.
