GREENSBURG, Pa. -
Emily LoPresti scored in the 13th minute of the game and the Griffin defense would take it from there as they upended #9 West Chester University by a score of 1-0 Saturday afternoon at Dick's Sporting Goods Field.
Seton Hill improves to 2-0 (1-0 PSAC). West Chester, who did not drop a game in the 2016 regular season, falls to 1-1 (1-1 PSAC) on the season.
LoPresti scored the game's only goal in the 13th minute. After receiving a pass from
Madison Schwerzler, LoPresti uncorked a shot from over 30 yards out over the head of the West Chester goalkeeper to give Seton Hill the early advantage. The Griffin defense answered questions all afternoon as the Golden Rams sent a total 17 total shots (five on-goal) towards the Griffin goal, nine of which came in the second frame. Time after time, however, the SHU defenders sent the Golden Rams away and it was
Morgan Casario's game-saving tackle as WCU's Haley Luckenbill looked to score on a one-on-one with only minutes remaining that sealed the win for Seton Hill.
Jessica Neill (2-0) grabbed five saves in all 90 minutes defending the Seton Hill net. Brooke Myers (1-1) had one save in the loss for West Chester.
For the match, West Chester outshot Seton Hill by a 17-6 margin (5-2 on-goal). The Golden Rams held a 9-2 advantage in corner kicks. The Griffins were whistled for 10 fouls, while WCU had nine.
Seton Hill will step out of PSAC play for the final time next Wednesday, September 6th when they welcome Alderson Broaddus University to Dick's Field. Kick-off for that match is set for 4:00 PM. Live Stats and Video will be available.
