Seton Hill hosted Fairmont State on Tuesday evening for their home opener. The Griffins jumped out to a 2-0 lead only to see the Falcons rally and win the final three sets for a 3-2 victory. SHU drops to 7-2 overall while the Falcons improve to 8-4 on the season.
The Griffins went on a 4-0 run midway thru the first set to take a 15-11 lead. Fairmont State responded with a 8-2 run to retake a 19-17 lead. SHU answered with six of the next eight points to build a 23-21 lead.
Leah Bisignani put the set away with a kill for set point and a 25-22 Griffin win.
SHU jumped out to an early 7-5 lead in the second set, forcing a Falcon timeout. SHU then pushed their lead to 16-11 and 20-13 later in the set. Fairmont State fought back to tie the set at 23. Bisignani's kill made it 24-23 and a block from
Viktoria Farian and
Katie Wenson gave the Griffins a 2-0 lead after a 25-23 second set win.
Fairmont State came out of the gates fast in the third set, taking a 13-7 lead. They build their lead to as many as ten at 19-9. FSU led 24-15 before the Griffins went on a 5-0 run to put a scare in the Falcons but a block gave FSU the third set at 25-20.
The fourth set was tight early with the score tied at five. Fairmont build their lead to 13-8 before two quick points from an
Erin Parks's kill and Farian ace trimmed the lead to 13-10. The Falcons then ran off seven straight points to take control of the set. FSU tied the match at two with a 25-13 fourth set win.
Two kills from Bisignani gave SHU an early 2-1 lead in the fifth set. The Falcons scored the next six points to take control of the set. They then used a 5-0 run to help close out the set and match. The Falcons completed the comeback with a 15-7 fifth set win.
Bisignani led the Griffins with 14 kills. Farian added 12 kills.
Brynn Fleury led the offense with 23 assists while
Maggie Murray added 18. Murray and Wenson each had five blocks.
The Griffins will open up PSAC play this weekend as they travel to Cheyney and West Chester on Friday and Saturday.
