CHEYNEY, Pa. - The Seton Hill University volleyball team rolled past Cheyney University on Friday night, 25-6, 25-10, and 25-4 in their 2017 Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference opener.
The Griffins improve to 8-2 overall (1-0 PSAC) while Cheyney falls to 0-6 (0-1 PSAC) on the year.
In game one, Seton Hill raced out to a 3-0 lead before Cheyney scored their first point. However, the Griffins would rattle off 9 unanswered points on their way to the 25-6 win. In game two, the two teams battled back and forth and the Griffins found themselves trailing Cheyney, 6-3. Kills by
Jenna Sassack and Umari Stroud followed by a service ace evened the game at 6-6. Cheyney would regain the lead on the next rally. However, the Griffins ran off six straight on their way to the 25-10 win. In game three, Seton Hill would break a 3-3 tie with 13 points in a row and eventually defeat the Wolves by a score of 25-4.Â
Umari Stroud led the Griffin offensive effort with a team-leading six kills.
Katie Wenson had five, and
Viktoria Farian had four. Sophomore
Taylor Sabol had seven aces in the match, surpassing her ace total of all of her freshman year (five).
Brynn Fleury was credited for 13 assists, and
Hannah Moeller had 10 digs.
