GREENSBURG, Pa. - The Seton Hill University softball team swept conference opponent Slippery Rock University, 3-2 and 4-1, on Sunday afternoon at the Seton Hill Softball field.
Seton Hlll improves to 11-16 overall and 4-4 in PSAC action. Slippery Rock drops to 9-14 overall and 3-3 in the PSAC.
Seton Hill struck first in game one, scoring a run in the first inning when
Abbey Suhoski's double to right center scored
Christiana Skrabak to give SHU a 1-0 lead. The Griffins would put two more in the fifth.
Danelle Locke struck out swinging, but advanced to first due to a wild pitch that ended up in the backstop. After Kapoll came in to run for Locke,
Brooke Bower's singled up the middle.
Victoria Stock's infield single loaded the bases with just one out. A wild pitch during the next at-bat would score Kapoll and Bower to give SHU a 3-0 lead. Slippery Rock would score two in the sixth, but Seton Hill would hold on for the 3-2 win.
Stock, Skrabak, Suhoski, and Locke went 1-for-3 at the plate. Suhoski had the only RBI in the game.
Amanda Huff (7-6) picked up the win, spending 6.0 innings in the circle while allowing two earned runs on eight hits and walking two.
Leighann Pettis got the save, entering the game in the top of the seventh. Carly DeRose gets the loss for Slippery Rock.
In game two, the Griffins used a strong four-run first inning on their way to a 4-1 win. With one out,
Christiana Skrabak reached via an error, and
Ashley Perillo singled up the middle to advance Skrabak to second.
Abbey Suhoski's single up the middle scored Skrabak and moved Perillo to second for the game's first run.
Amanda Huff then singled to right field, scoring Perillo and placing Suhoski at third. After
Allison Kapoll replaced Suhoski at third,
Paige Hertzog batted her home with a double to right center, advancing Huff to third. Chelsea Rohan grounded out the second, but it was enough to score Huff and give SHU all the runs they would need on their way to a 4-1 win.
Stock, Perillo, Suhoski, Hertzog, and Bower were all 1-for-3 in game two. Huff went 1-for-1. Suhoski, Hertzog, Huff, and Rohan each had RBI's.Â
Leighann Pettis (3-7) lasted all 7.0 innings in the circle, surrendering just one run on seven hits in the win. Dawson went all 6.0 for Slippery Rock in the loss.
The Griffins will take to the diamond on Tuesday, Aprill 11th when they take on the University of Pittsburgh at Johnstown at the SHU Softball Field. Game one of the doubleheader is set to start at 3:00 PM.
