Seton Hill hosted Pitt Johnstown in a PSAC crossover matchup on Tuesday afternoon. The Mountain Cats took game one by a 4-1 score thanks to four unearned runs. The Griffins earned the split with a 4-1 win in game two. SHU is now 12-17 on the season.
UPJ scored its first run in the top of the second inning. SHU threatened in the third inning when
Allison Kapoll and
Victoria Stock singled to open the inning.
Brooke Bower moved them both up with a sacrifice bunt but two groundouts ended the threat.
UPJ added 3 more runs in the top of the fourth thanks to a Griffin error on a sacrifice bunt to push their lead to 4-0. Kapoll homered to left field with one out in the bottom of the seventh.
Paige Hertzog and Kapoll each had 2 hits.
The Griffins jumped on the scoreboard first in the second inning of the second game. SHU scored twice on a two run single from
Christiana Skrabak that scored
Paige Hertzog and pinch runner
Shannon Horan.
SHU pushed their lead to 3-0 in the third inning when
Amanda Huff singled in
Ashley Perillo.
Pitt Johsntown got a run back in the top of the sixth inning to cut the lead to 3-1. The Griffins added an unearned run in the bottom of the sixth to increase their lead to 4-1.
Huff earned the win with four shutout innings.
Leighann Pettis earned her second save with three innings of work. Perillo led the offense with 3 hits.
SHU returns to PSAC West action on Friday when they host Mercyhurst.
