GREENSBURG, Pa. - The Seton Hill University softball team defeated Mercyhurst University, 4-3 and 12-0 (5 inn), in a Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference doubleheader on Friday afternoon at the Seton Hill Softball Field.
The wins boost SHU's overall record to 14-17 overall and 6-4 in the PSAC. Mercyhurst slips to 8-24-1 overall and 2-6 in conference action.
After giving up a run in the first, the Griffins built a 3-1 lead with three runs in the third inning of game one.
Brooke Bower got things started with a two-out single up the middle.
Ashley Perillo then singled to third base, moving Bower to second.
Abbey Suhoski then doubled to left field, scoring Perillo and Bower to give SHU a 2-1 lead.
Paige Hertzog's single up the middle at the next at-bat scored Suhoski to put SHU ahead, 3-1.
After the Lakers tied it at 3-3 in the fifth, Seton Hill regained the lead with a run in the sixth.
Victoria Stock singled through the left side.
Brooke Bower's sac bunt advanced Bower to second, but a throwing error by the second baseman allowed Bower to go all the way home.
Perillo went 3-for-3 with a run scored in the first game. Paige Huertzog was 2-for-3 with and RBI, while
Abbey Suhoski was 1-for-3 with a game-high two RBI's.
Amanda Huff (9-6) got the win for SHU, pitching all 7.0 innings and giving up three runs while striking out nine. Heather Nye dropped to 5-9 on the year for Mercyhurst.
In game two, Seton Hill used five runs in the first to set the tone for the game on their way to a 12-0 win in five innings.Â
Leighann Pettis threw all 5.0 innings, giving up just three hits, striking out one, and walking one.

Christiana Skrabak all had two hits.
Brooke Bower,
Chelsea Rohan, and
Hannah LaGrou also had hits in the game.
Seton Hill will travel to Edinoboro, Pa. to take on Edinboro University on Saturday. That doubleheader is scheduled to start at 1:00 PM.
