Seton Hill closed out its four game set with California (PA) with a home doubleheader on Sunday afternoon. The Griffins opened up the day with a 4-3 win in game one. SHU completed the sweep with an 8-2 win in game two. SHU improves to 19-11 overall and 6-6 in PSAC West play.
The Griffins got on the scoreboard first with two runs on one hit in the first. Ty Sullivan led off with a single.
Craig Lewis then drew a walk. Sullivan scored on a sacrifice bunt from
Mark Colella. Lewis then scored when
Adam Ferita's fly ball fell in between the second baseman and right fielder. Cal cut the lead in half in the top of the third.
In the bottom of the fifth the Griffins took advantage of two walks and an error to increase the lead to 3-1. Cal then took advantage of a Griffin error to tie the game at three in the top of the sixth. SHU retook the lead in the bottom of the sixth.
Austin Braendel was hit by a pitch and Ferita drove in
Tom McCarthy with a double to the gap.
Kenny Wells earned the win in relief in game one. Sullivan and Ferita had the two Griffin hits.
After Cal took a 1-0 lead in the top of the first inning the Griffins responded with 3 runs. Two runs scored on a wild pitch and the final run scored on a double to the gap from
Tom McCarthy.
The Griffins increased their lead to 4-1 in the second inning after an RBI single from Lewis. SHU added on to their lead in the third inning with three runs. The big hit was a two RBI triple from
Jarrett Peters. SHU added an insurance run on an RBI pinch hit double from
Evan Myers.
Tyler Morder earned the win with a complete game effort. McCarthy led the offense with 2 hits.
SHU returns to action on Tuesday afternoon when they travel to Lock Haven for a doubleheader.
