Griffins Fall 12-11 to East Stroudsburg

The Griffins entered the weekend riding a four game winning streak.  They saw that end with an OT loss on Friday.  East Stroudsburg continued the losing streak with a 12-11 win over the Griffins on Saturday afternoon.  SHU falls to 6-6 overall and 4-4 in PSAC play.  The Warriors improve to 9-2 overall and 5-1 in PSAC play.

East Stroudsburg opened the scoring just 2:12 into the first half.  SHU then responded with three straight goals.  Keagan Pontious opened the SHU scoring off a feed from Charlotte CunninghamNicole Nath and Katelyn Cressman scored unassisted goals to give SHU a 3-1 lead with 22:05 to play.  ESU then went on a four goal run to take a 5-3 lead with 10:48 to play in the half.  Mackenzie Kilduff scored from Cunningham and Cunningham scored from Kilduff to tie the score at five with just under six minutes remaining in the half.  The Warriors scored the final two goals of the half to take a 7-5 lead into the halftime break. 

Christine Palmeri scored 23 seconds into the second half to cut the Warriors lead to 7-6 early in the second half.  The Warriors then scored twice in fourteen seconds to push their lead to 9-6 with 24:04 to play.  Palmeri scored a man up goal from Cunningham and Cunningham scored her second from Kilduff and SHU trailed 9-8 with just over 20 minutes left in the half.  ESU scored the next two goals to push their lead back to three.  Palmeri and Nath scored unassisted goals and SHU trailed 11-10 with 11:07 to play.  ESU scored with 3:23 to play and Pontius cut the lead to one with a goal with 54 seconds left.  ESU got the draw but a turnover gave SHU the ball with 10 seconds to play but the time ran out.

Palmeri led the Griffins with 3 goals.  Keagan Pontious, Charlotte Cunningham and Nicole Nath each scored 2 goals.  Cunningham added 4 assists.

SHU will travel to Gannon on Wednesday.
