GREENSBURG, Pa. - Redshirt junior
Amanda Huff threw a complete game and
Ashley Perillo hit a walk-off single to center field to lift the Seton Hill University softball team to a doubleheader split with California University of Pennsylvania Saturday afternoon at the SHU Softball Field.
The Griffins, who won the first game 1-0 in extra innings before falling 5-2, are now 9-16 overall and 2-4 in the PSAC. The Vulcans move to 10-10 overall and 1-3 in PSAC play.
After eight and a half scoreless innings of play in game one,
Paige Hertzog led off the bottom of the inning with a double to left center.
Victoria Stock's sacrifice bunt then moved Hertzog to third.
Ashley Perillo then singled to deep center field on an 0-1 count, scoring Hertzog and giving SHU the 1-0 win.
Amanda Huff pitched all eight innings for the Griffins, allowing just three hits while walking one and striking out four. Kaity Davis picked up the loss, entering the game in fifth inning and allowing Hertzog's lead-off double in the eighth.
California (PA) jumped out to an early lead in game two, thanks to a four-hit second inning that saw four Vulcans reach home plate. Seton Hill would score one in the fourth and another in the fifth, but it would not be enough as the Griffins fell, 5-2.
Seton Hill returns to action on Sunday when they take on Slippery Rock University in a home PSAC doubleheader. Game one is scheduled for a 12:00 pm start.
