EDINBORO, Pa. - Seton Hill University earned a sweep of Edinboro University by defeating the Fighting Scotts, 7-6 and 8-1, on Tuesday evening in Edinboro, Pa. The conference doubleheader was originally scheduled for April 15th but suspended due to weather.
The Griffins moves to 18-21 overall and 10-6 in the PSAC. Edinboro falls to 13-18 overall and 4-10 in the conference.
GAME ONE
Restarting the game in the fourth inning with Seton Hill down, 4-1, the Griffins scored three runs to tie the game.
Ashley Perillo got the inning started when she reached on an error by the shortstop, eventually reaching second on the error and moving to third base on a wild pitch during the next at-bat. One out later,
Paige Hertzog reached on a throwing error by third base.
Amanda Huff's double to left center score Perillo and moved Hertzog to third to make it 4-2.
Christiana Skrabak then doubled to left field, scoring Hertzog and Huff to tie the game at 4-4.
In the fifth inning,
Abbey Suhoski singled to second base with two outs. Hertzog then singled up the middle, moving Suhoski to second. After
Saige Minear came in to pinch run for Suhoski,
Amanda Huff homered to left field, scoring Hertzog and Minear to give SHU a 7-4 lead. Edinboro would score two in the bottom of the 6th, but the Griffins would survive to win, 7-6.
Christiana Skrabak was 3-for-4 with two RBI's in the game.
Amanda Huff was 2-for-4 with two runs scored and a team-leading four RBI's.
Paige Hertzog was 2-for-4 with three runs scored.
Paige Hertzog,
Amanda Huff, and Skrabak all had doubles in game one. Huff had SHU's only homerun. Hertzog and Skrabak both had stolen bases.
Mackayla Kroll (2-4) picked up the game one win, throwing 1.2 innings in relief of starter
Leighann Pettis. Kroll gave up two hits.
Amanda Huff gets the save. Edinboro's Amanda Metz (4-3) got the loss.
GAME TWO
After scoring the game's first run in the third, the Griffins broke the game open with a five-run fifth inning.
Victoria Stock hit a one-out single to shortstop followed by a
Brooke Bower single up the middle.
Ashley Perillo then reached off of a fielder's choice, moving Bower to second. After
Abbey Suhoski's walk loaded the bases,
Paige Hertzog doubled to right field to score Perillo and Bower to make it 3-0.
Christiana Skrabak then singled to left field, scoring Hertzog and Suhoski and giving SHU a 5-0 advantage.
The Griffins would go on to score security runs in the sixth and seventh en route to the 8-1 win.
Amanda Huff (12-7) pitched all seven innings for Seton Hill in the win, striking out 13 while issuing no walks and no earned runs. Kalet Lenart (5-5) got the loss for Edinboro.
Victoria Stock was 4-for-5 with a run scored while
Paige Hertzog was 2-for-4 with a run scored and 2 RBI's.
Brooke Bower was 2-for-4 with two runs scored and an RBI.
Christiana Skrabak was 1-for-4 with a run scored and 2 RBI's.
Abbey Suhoski, Pertzog and
Chelsea Rohan all had doubles.
Victoria Stock had SHU's only stolen base in the win.
Seton Hill will be back in action when they travel to Erie, Pa. this Friday to take on Mercyhurst University. Game one of the PSAC doubleheader is scheduled for 2:30 PM.
