WEST CHESTER, Pa. - The Seton Hill University women's lacrosse team came up short in Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference play Saturday afternoon, dropping a 14-7 decision to West Chester University.
The loss drops Seton Hill to 9-7 overall and 6-5 in the conference. West Chester improves to 11-3, 8-2 in the PSAC.
After falling behind, 1-0, just five minutes in the game,
Nellie Phillips scored an unassisted goal to even the score at 1-1 with 21:32 to go in the half. The Rams then scored the next four before goals by
Mackenzie Kilduff (9:54) and Phillips (7:24) ended the SHU drought. WCU would go on to score two more and head into hafltime with a 7-3 lead.
The Griffins got early second half goals by
Katelyn Cressman (27:57) and
Christine Palmeri (23:04, 22:38) to decrease the deficit to two, 8-6. West Chester's Tatum Altman put the Rams ahead by three, 9-6, but
Keagan Pontious scored off of a
Nellie Phillips assist to keep SHU in striking distance, 9-7. However, West Chester would score five unanswered goals to make the final score rest at 14-7.
Chsrtine Palmeri had two goals, while
Nellie Phillips added two more and two assists. Pontious, Cressman, and Kilduff rounded out the Seton Hill scoring. Tatum Atlman had four goals for WCU, while Ashley Pyle added three more. Kristen Vath and Tara Morrissey both had two goals. Dina Cifelli, Olivia Martin, and Ali Donohue each added a goal apiece in the win.
For the game, West Chester held a 36-27 advantage in shots. SHU committed 18 turnovers compared ot 15 for WCU. Seton Hill won the grounds balls, 20-19. The Griffins won 13 craw controls to West Chester's 10.
Meghan Hollar had 12 saves in the loss, while Nicole Martins grabbed 13 for WCU.
The Griffins will close out the regular season on Saturday, April 29th when they host Kutztown University. That game is scheduled for 1:00 PM.
