Seton Hill closed out their four game set with Pitt Johnstown with a pair of games at Point Stadium on Saturday afternoon. SHU defeated the Mountain Cats by a 13-2 score in game one of the doubleheader. The Griffins completed the sweep with a 7-5 win in game two. SHU is now 23-13 overall and 9-7 in PSAC West action.
The Griffins scored a run in the top of the second inning to take a 1-0 lead.
Ryan Wardropper doubled with one out and scored on a
Ryan Grieco single. SHU added on in the third thanks to a few gifts from the Mountain Cats. SHU used two hit batters and a walk to in route to putting a six spot on the board. Wardropper singled in two runs and
MP Buckley blasted one over the monster in left for a three run shot to extend the lead to 7-0.
UPJ got two runs back in the bottom of the third inning to trim the lead to 7-2. SHU got three runs back in the top of the fifth. Two of the runs came on Buckley's second blast over the monster in left field. The other was on a wild pitch. SHU added three more in the top of the seventh for a 13-2 lead.
Joe Shaffer went the distance to earn his second win of the season. Wardropper and Grieco led the offense with three hits. Buckley finished with two bombs and 5 RBI.
UPJ used two unearned runs to take a 2-0 lead after two innings. Buckley led off the top of the third with a triple off the wall in left center field. He scored when
Jarrett Peters singled back thru the middle to cut the lead to 2-1. UPJ got that run right back in the bottom of the third.
SHU tied the score at three in the top of the fourth.
Tom McCarthy led off with a double and scored on a hit from
Adam Ferita.
Carl Turner then drove in Grieco with a sac fly. The Griffins took the lead in the sixth. Wardropper led off with a missile over the left center field wall. SHU then used two walks with two runners on to score their fifth run.
Brian Dabney earned the win, going the final 3.1 innings. He gave up just 2 unearned runs on 2 hits while striking out 6.
Ryan Wardropper had a double and 2 home runs. Grieco also with 3 hits. McCarthy and Ferita two hits each.
SHU will return to action on Tuesday when they host Point Park in a single nine inning contest.
