Griffins & Mountain Cats Split Doubleheader

Seton Hill opened their four game set with Pitt Johnstown on Friday afternoon in Greensburg.  SHU defeated the Mountain Cats 8-3 in game one.  UPJ earned the split with a 9-6 win in game two.  SHU is now 21-13 overall and 7-7 in PSAC West action.
 
SHU got runners at first and third with no one out in the bottom of the first but ran themselves out of the inning with a pick off at third base.  The Griffins cracked the scoreboard in the second inning.  Craig Lewis led off with a double off the wall in center field.  Adam Ferita followed with a single and both scored when MP Buckley doubled to the gap.  Bayley Jamanis was hit by a pitch.  Tyler Sullivan then knocked in a run with a ground out and Tom McCarthy singled in a run to give SHU a 4-0 lead. 
 
UPJ scored two times in the top of the third inning to cut the Griffins lead to 4-2.  The Griffins got one of the runs back in the bottom of the fourth.  Buckley doubled and scored on a base hit from McCarthy.  The Mountain Cats made it 5-3 with a run in the top of the fifth.  SHU got that run back in the bottom of the inning when Mark Colella doubled and scored on a RBI single from Ferita. 
 
Tyler Morder earned the win with a complete game effort.  He struck out two.  Tom McCarthy, Mark Colella, MP Buckley, Adam Ferita and Craig Lewis with two hits each. 
 
Seton Hill scored three times in the bottom of the first of game two.  Sullivan led off with a double and scored on a single from McCarthy.  Colella then knocked in McCarthy with a bomb to left center field.  Pitt Johnstown tied the score at three with three runs in the top of the third inning. 
 
UPJ took the lead with two runs in the top of the fourth inning.  SHU scored an unearned run in the bottom of the fifth but the Mountain Cats answered with three unearned runs in the top of the sixth to take an 8-4 lead. 
 
SHU scored twice in the seventh, once on a balk and the other on a Colella RBI single. 
 
Colella had three hits and Austin Braendel had two hits. 
 
SHU will travel to Johnstown to complete the four game set on Saturday afternoon.
