Seton Hill managed just one run on eight hits in a pair of PSAC West opening contests at Gannon on Saturday afternoon. SHU led 1-0 heading into the seventh inning of game one but gave up a walk off two run homer with two outs for a 2-1 loss to the Knights. Gannon shutout the Griffins 2-0 in game two to complete the sweep. The Griffins drop to 7-14 overall and 0-2 in PSAC West play. Gannon improves to 15-6 overall and 2-0 in PSAC action.
In game one, SHU got runners to first and second with two outs on a walk to
Victoria Stock and a single from
Chelsea Rohan but a strikeout ended the threat. The Griffins broke thru in the fourth inning. After an out,
Amanda Huff singled and moved to second on a wild pitch.
Allison Kapoll pinch ran for Huff. Stock followed with a single and Kapoll scored on an error to give the Griffins a 1-0 lead.
The Griffins threatened to add on in the fifth as
Paige Hertzog reached on an error and
Christiana Skrabak singled.
Abbie Thrower moved both up with a sacrifice bunt. SHU could not score an insurance run as a pop out and groundout ended the inning. The Knights used a leadoff walk in the seventh to rally. After a pop out and strikeout, the Knights walked off the Griffins with a two out pinch hit homer.
Huff worked the first six innings, only giving up 2 hits while striking out three. She also added two hits at the plate.
Thrower doubled with one out in the first of game two and moved to third but was stranded there. Gannon struck first in game two as they used a perfectly executed squeeze play to take a 1-0 lead in the second inning. The Knights added another run in the fifth to extend their lead to 2-0.
Thrower had the lone extra base hit in the game with a double in the first.
SHU will continue PSAC West play on Sunday when they host Edinboro at 1 PM.
