Women's Lacrosse Comes Up Short At Millersville, 11-9

MILLERSVILLE, Pa. - Senior attacker Charlotte Cunningham had two goals and two assists while Keagan Pontious and Kately Cressman added two goals apiece, but it was Millersville University holding off the visiting Griffins for an 11-9 victory in Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference women's lacrosse action on Sunday.

Cunningham (26:33), Cressman (23:40), and Pontious (23:14) opened a three goal lead early in the first half. But the Marauders struck back with two goals by Callie Kavanaugh (14:44, 5:45) and Nathalie Sell (11:25). Nicole Nath gave the Griffins the lead with 3:34 remaining, finding the back of the net off of an assist by Cunningham to put SHU ahead, 4-3. Renee Landis tied the game at 4-4 with just 46 seconds to go in the half, but a goal by Pontious with just 15 ticks left put Seton Hill ahead, 5-4.

Seton Hill struck first in the second half when Tristen Hanke scored on an unassisted, free position goal with just over 25 minutes remaining to make it 6-4. However, a free position goal by Nathalie Sell (20:09) followed by a Sabrina Fusco (17:59) goal knotted the game back up at 6-6.

Katelyn Cressman put Seton Hill back on top, 7-6, when she scored an unassisted goal with 17:19 remaining. However, Millersville regained the lead off of goal by Landis (13:59) and Leverentz (13:15). Cunningham evened the scored at 8-8 when she score off of a Christine Palmeri assist with 13:04 remaining, but the Marauder goals by Fagan (8:11), Landis (6:48), and Fusco (5:40) gave Millersville the largest lead of either team, 11-8. Christine Palmeri would score an unassisted goal with 4:18 remaining in the game, but the late push was not enough as the host squad held off Seton Hill the rest of the way.

For the match, Millersville outshot SHU, 28-21 (18-14 on-goal). The teams were even at 19 apiece in turnovers. Millersville outpaced SHU, 14-8, in draw controls. Meghan Hollar had seven saves in the loss for Seton Hill.

Seton Hill will travel to Slippery Rock on Wednesday, March 8th. That game is scheduled for 4:00 PM.
