Seton Hill made the trip to Finch Field in Thomasville, NC for a weekend tournament. The Griffins opened the tourney with a Saturday morning matchup with Northeast-10 foe LeMoyne. Six strong innings were not enough as the Griffins could not hold a late 3-2 lead and were walked off with a one out homer in the ninth for a 4-3 loss. SHU drops to 2-2 on the season while the Dolphins improve to 6-2.
The Griffins got on the board first in the top of the first inning without a hit. SHU used two hit by pitches, a throwing error and a wild pitch to take a 1-0 lead.
Craig Lewis was the second to be hit by a pitch. He moved to third when
Tom McCarthy reached on an error and scored on a wild pitch.
The Dolphins tied the game at one with a solo homer in the bottom of the third inning. LeMoyne took a 2-1 lead with an unearned run in the bottom of the fourth inning. SHU tied the score at two with a two out, RBI single from
Garret Vrbanic than scored
Tyler Sullivan who walked.
SHU took the lead in the top of the sixth. McCarthy singled thru the left side of the infield to start the inning. He scored when
Ryan Wardropper singled thru the right side with two outs.
Lemoyne tied the game at three in the eighth thanks to a lot of help from the Griffins. The Dolphins used three Griffin walks and an error to tie the score.
Mark Colella tripled off the center field wall to lead off the ninth inning but a dribbler to the mound and two strikeouts stranded him there.
It did not take LeMoyne long to win the game after that as they hit a walk off homer to left center field with one out in the ninth.
Joe Shaffer went 6 innings, giving up 1 earned run on 3 hits while striking out 12.
The Griffins return to action on Sunday in Thomasville when they take on St Thomas Aquinas and Bloomsburg.
