The Griffins hosted Salem International in a non conference doubleheader on Saturday afternoon as they prepare for conference play that begins next week. SHU rallied from three down for a 4-3 win in game one. The Griffins completed the sweep with a 4-1 win over the Tigers in game two. SHU improves to 6-11 overall on the season.
The Tigers got on the scoreboard first in game one. They used a leadoff double, two singles and a bases clearing double to take a 3-0 lead. The Griffins got to within one run in the fourth.
Paige Hertzog led off the inning with a double. After a foul out,
Danelle Locke hit a homer to left field to trim the Tigers lead to 3-2. Seton Hill took the lead for good in the fifth inning.
Christiana Skrabak led the inning off with a single.
Abbey Suhoski followed with a double to put runners on second and third with no one out.
Ashley Boehm pinch ran for Suhoski at second base. SHU then tied the game at three on an RBI groundout from
Ashley Perillo. The Griffins then took the lead when Boehm scored on an RBI groundout from Hertzog.
Salem threatened in the seventh as they had two runners on with two outs. The next batter singled to center field and
Victoria Stock was able to gun down the tying run at the plate for the final out of the game.
Leighann Pettis earned the win in the circle with a complete game effort. She gave up the 3 runs on 6 hits while striking out two. Skrabak and Suhoski each finished the game with two hits.
SHU jumped on the Tigers for three runs in the bottom of the first inning of game two.
Brooke Bower led off the game with a double. She scored on a single from Skrabak. After a Suhoski single put runners on first and third, Perillo made it 2-0 with an RBI single. Hertzog then singled to load the bases.
Chelsea Rohan put the Griffins in front 3-0 with an RBI single.
Seton Hill added another run in the third inning. After an out, Rohan singled and moved to second on an error. She moved to third on a single from Locke. Stock followed with a single to right field to knock in Rohan and make it 4-0. Salem got a run back in the fourth to trim the lead to 4-1.
Mackayla Kroll earned her first win of the season with a complete game effort. She gave up 1 run on 5 hits while striking out 4. Rohan finished the game going 3-3. Stock added two hits.
The Griffins will return to action on Tuesday when they are scheduled to host Alderson Broaddus.
