The Griffins ended their three game Florida road trip with the toughest of their three games as they traveled to Lakeland to take on #5 Florida Southern. SHU trailed just 11-8 in the second half but the Mocs scored nine of the next ten goals in route to a 21-10 victory. SHU falls to 2-4 on the season.
Florida Southern scored four of the first five goals to take an early 4-1 lead just eleven minutes into the contest. The Griffins responded with goals from
Keagan Pontious and
Mackenzie Kilduff to cut the lead to 4-3 midway thru the first half. Pontious scored her third of the game with just over fourteen minutes to play that cut the Mocs lead to 5-4. Florida Southern scored the final four goals of the half to take a 9-4 lead into the halftime break.
Seton Hill scored the first three goals of the second half to trim the Mocs lead to 9-7 with 26:34 to play. Pontious netted two of the goals and Kilduff added the other.
Charlotte Cunningham assisted on the Kilduff goal. After Florida Southern scored twice,
Christine Palmeri scored to cut the lead to 11-8 with just under 20 minutes remaining. From that point on it was all Florida Southern as they had goal runs of five and four to pull away in the contest.
Katelyn Cressman scored the final Griffin goal.
Keagan Pontious led the squad with 5 goals.
Mackenzie Kilduff added 3 goals.
Christine Palmeri and
Katelyn Cressman each had a goal and an assist.
Charlotte Cunningham finished with 2 assists.
SHU will return to PSAC action on Tuesday when they host Mercyhurst at noon.
