Game Recap: Softball |

SB Splits Another Pair in Florida

For the third time on their spring trip in Florida, the Griffin softball team split a pair of games in the PFX Spring Games in Clermont.  The Griffins dropped the first game of the day, a 4-3 loss to Bemidji State.  SHU responded with a 6-2 win over the University of Bridgeport in the nightcap.  Seton Hill is now 4-7 on the season.

Bemidji took advantage of a Griffin error in the top of the first inning to take a 1-0 lead.  The Griffins had a runner at third base with one out in the third but two infield groundouts ended the inning.  Bemidji scored two more runs in the bottom of the inning to extend their lead to 3-0.  SHU got a run back in the top of the sixth.  Abbey Suhoski led off the inning with a single.  She scored when Allie Harvey doubled.  Bemidji scored their final run of the game in the bottom of the sixth.

Saige Minear opened the seventh with a bunt single.  Brooke Bower was hit by a pitch to put runners at first and second.  A groundout moved both runners up a base.  Minear scored when Christiana Skrabak grounded out.  Bower scored to cut the lead to 4-3 when Suhoski reached on an error.  The game ended with a fly out.

Bridgeport opened the scoring with a run in the top of the first inning.  SHU pushed across four runs in the bottom of the third.  Bower opened the inning drawing a walk.  She moved to second on a sac bunt from Victoria Stock.  Harvey and Suhoski each followed with RBI singles to give the Griffins a 2-1 lead.  Chelsea Rowan singled to put runners on first and second.  Skrabak reached on a error to load the bases and two runs scored when Ashley Perillo reached on an error.

The Purple Knights got a run back in the top of the fourth.  The Griffins scored their final two runs of the night in the fifth.  After an out, Rohan reached on an error.  Allison Kapoll pinch ran and stole second.  Skrabak was hit by a pitch and Perillo singled in Kapoll to make it 5-2.  Minear ran for Perillo and stole second.  Skrabak scored on an RBI groundout by Abbie Thrower.

Amanda Huff earned her fourth win of the season.  She worked 7 innings, giving up 2 runs on 6 hits.  She struck out 7 and did not walk a batter.

SHU will close out the spring trip on Friday with games against Wayne State and Concordia (MI).
