Game Recap: Softball |

Softball Splits on Day Three in Florida

The Griffin softball team continued its spring trip with a pair of games at the Legends Park complex in Clermont, Florida on Tuesday afternoon.  Seton Hill earned a split for the second time in three days in Florida.  SHU was shutout in a 3-0 loss in the first game to Augustana (SD).  The Griffins then knocked off Franklin Pierce by a 5-2 score.  SHU is now 3-6 on the season.

Augustana took advantage of two Griffin errors to score twice in the bottom of the third inning.  They added another run in the sixth on a double steal of home.  The Griffins only managed two hits, one each by Victoria Stock and Amanda Huff.  Huff was the hard luck loser in the game as she gave up just 1 earned run.

SHU took a 1-0 lead in the second inning of the second game.  Huff singled after one out.  Abbie Thrower then drew a walk to put runners on first and second.  Allie Harvey followed with an RBI single to give the Griffins a 1-0 lead.  Franklin Pierce tied the score at one in the bottom of the fourth.

Seton Hill pushed across four runs in the top of the seventh inning, all after two outs.  Christiana Skrabak was hit by a pitch to start the two out rally.  Abbey Suhoski doubled to drive in Skrabak and give SHU a 2-1 lead.  Ashley Perillo then singled to knock in Suhoski.  Huff walked to put runners on first and second.  Thrower then singled to load the bases.  Two Franklin Pierce errors allowed the Griffins to push across two more runs for a 5-1 lead.

Huff earned the win in the circle.  She worked 6 innings, giving up 0 earned runs on 3 hits while striking out 3.  Stock, Suhoski and Huff each had two hits.

SHU will be off on Wednesday before returning to action on Thursday against Bemidji State and the University of Bridgeport.
