The Griffins continued their spring trip with a pair of scheduled matchups on Monday afternoon and evening. SHU was able to defeat Fairmont State 5-3 in a rain shortened contest before their nightcap with Concordia-St Paul was postponed because of rain. SHU improves to 2-5 on the season.
Fairmont State took a 1-0 lead thanks to an unearned run in the bottom of the second inning. SHU took the lead in the top of the fourth inning. After an out,
Ashley Perillo singled.
Amanda Huff and
Chelsea Rohan both followed with singles to load the bases.
Ashley Boehm pinch ran for Perillo and
Saige Minear pinch ran for Huff.
Abbie Thrower then hit a sacrifice fly to score Boehm and tie the game at one.
Allie Harvey followed with a two RBI single that gave the Griffins their first lead at 3-1.
SHU added two more runs in the fifth inning.
Victoria Stock drew a walk with one out. She moved to second when
Abbey Suhoski singled.
Allison Kapoll pinch ran for Suhoski and then Perillo doubled to score Stock and Kapoll and give SHU a 5-1 lead. The Falcons scored two runs in the bottom half of the fifth to trim the Griffins lead to 5-3.
The teams were able to start the sixth inning before the rains came in and ended the game.
Amanda Huff earned her second straight win in the circle. She worked all five innings. Amanda gave up 3 runs (1 earned) on 5 hits while striking out 3. She also added two hits at the plate.
Ashley Perillo also had two hits for the Griffins and drove in two runs.
Allie Harvey also added 2 RBI.
SHU returns to action on Tuesday when they take on Augustana and Franklin Pierce.
