The Griffins women's lacrosse team opened the season in style with a 20-6 home victory over Wheeling Jesuit on Friday afternoon at Dick's Sporting Goods Field. SHU used a 13 goal first half and 9 points from
Charlotte Cunningham in the victory.
Wheeling Jesuit took an early 2-1 lead in the contest. SHU then ran off five straight goals over a seven minute stretch to take a 6-2 lead with 14:47 left in the half.
Keagan Pontious and
Katelyn Cressman each scored two goals during the run. After a Wheeling Jesuit goal, SHU ran off a seven goal run to take a 13-3 lead into the halftime break.
Christine Palmeri and
Charlotte Cunningham each scored twice during the run and Cunningham added 3 assists.
Tristen Hanke,
Ashley Ingram and Cressman each added a goal during the 7-0 run.
Pontious opened the second half scoring off a feed from Cunningham. Wheeling Jesuit responded with two goals to trim the lead to 14-5 with just over 21 minutes to play in the contest. Goals from Palmeri and Cunningham pushed the lead back to eleven and allowed the clock to run with SHU leading 16-5 with 17:33 to play. Wheeling scored their final goal with 16 minutes to play. Seton Hill outshot the Cardinals 33-16 in the contest. The Griffins had 18 draw controls to 10 for Wheeling Jesuit. SHU won the ground ball battle 20-14.

Katelyn Cressman each scored four goals. Cunningham added 5 assists for a nine point day.
Keagan Pontious added 3 goals and 2 assists.
Tristen Hanke added 1 goal and 2 assists.
Meghan Hollar recorded 3 saves in cage.
SHU will return to action on Sunday, March 5th at Millersville.
