KUTZTOWN, Pa.- Playing with a depleted bench, the Seton Hill University men's basketball team fell to Kutztown University, , in PSAC East-West Crossover action on Saturday afternoon inside the Keystone Arena in Kutztown, Pa.
The Griffins are now 3-6 on the year and 1-4 in the PSAC. Kutztown improves to 8-1 overall and 4-1 in PSAC play.
Seton Hill's
Tyler Bowling scored eight of SHU's first ten points as the Griffins held an early 10-8 lead with 15:07 showing on the first half clock. The Griffins did a great job of keeping pace, but a jumper by KU's Ethan Ridgeway followed by a three from Moe Williams and another one from Ridgeway gave Kutztown their first lead of the game, 21-19, with 9:45 showing on the clock.
Trevor Lecuona answered on the other end with a three of his own to give Seton Hill a 22-21 lead. However, the Golden Bears would go on a 6-0 run behind Williams' two buckets to regain the advantage, 27-22, with just under eight minutes to go. Kutztown would eventually increase their lead to 11 (37-26), but Seton Hill's
Tyler Bowling scored back-to-back layups and
Nathan Davis' trey following a Kutztown turnover cut the deficit to four, 37-33, with just under two minutes remaining. Kutztown would score a tip-in bucket with :02 on the clock to lead, 39-33, going into the break.
Bowling kicked off the second half much like he did in the first by scoring the half's first two points and cutting the deficit to four, 39-35. After two made free-throws from Kutztown, Davis hit on a three to bring Seton Hill to within three, 41-38, with 17:18 remaining. However, the Golden Bears would go on a 6-0 run to make it 47-38 before
Terell Duck's two free-throws halted the run. The Griffins would keep the deficit to around 10 for most of the second half, but Kutztown would go on a 14-4 run to turn a 10 point lead (58-48) into a 20 points lead (72-52) with just 3:48 to go. The Golden Bears would cruise on their way to the 84-64 win.
Tyler Bowling led the Griffins with 20 points on 9-of-13 from the floor.
Nathan Davis added 16 points on 6-of-11 shooting, including 4-of-6 from three-point land.
Trevor Lecuona had 11 poitns on a 4-of-17 performance from the floor to round out the double-digit scorers for Seton Hill. Lee led Kutztown with 23 points, and Ridgeway added 21.
For the game, Seton Hill made 25-of-63 (39.7%) shots from the floor, including 6-of-22 (27.3%) from long range. The Griffins were 8-of-11 (72.7%)from the free-throw line. Kutztown made 32-of-73 (43.8%) shots from the field, and 7-of-26 (26.9%) from three. The Golden Bears netted 13-of-22 (59.1%) shots from the charity stripe. The Griffins were out-rebounded, 51-31. There were three lead changes in the contest with just one tie.
Seton Hill will step out of PSAC play and take on Carlow University (NAIA) on December 18th. Tip-off is set for 5:30 PM at the McKenna Center in Greensburg.
