Coach Hall Reaches 700 Career Wins as Griffins Defeat Vulcans

It was a memorable night in the McKenna Center as Seton Hill head coach Rick Hall reached a milestone with his 700th career win as the Griffins defeated California 3-1 on Tuesday evening.  All 700 of Coach Hall's wins have come at Seton Hill.  With the win, the Griffins remain in a tie with IUP atop the PSAC Southwest Division standings and with Gannon and IUP atop the PSAC standings with identical 13-3 conference records.  SHU is now 21-5 on the season.

The Griffins jumped on the Vulcans early in the first set, taking a quick 8-2 lead.  SHU then used an 8-0 later in the set to take a commanding 20-6 lead before taking the first set by a 25-8 score.

After California took a 2-1 lead to start the second set, the Griffins ran off eleven straight points to take a 12-2 lead over the Vulcans.  The Griffins used three kills from Maggie Murray and two from Jillian Livorse in the run.  California never got much closer in the set and the Griffins took a 2-0 advantage after a 25-13 second set win.

Seton Hill took a 16-10 lead in the third set looking to close out the Vulcans but Cal rallied to trim the Griffins lead to 2-1 after a 25-21 third set win.

That lit a fire in the Griffins as they opened the fourth set by scoring the set's first eight points.  Murray and Leah Bisignani each had two kills in the run.  The Vulcans fought back in the set to take a 17-16 lead.  SHU responded with a kill from Hannah Moeller and a block from Viktoria Farian and Bisignani to take a 19-17 lead.  Two kills from Bisignani and a block from Murray and Bisignani gave SHU a 23-18 advantage.  Sidney Chapman made it 24-19 before the Vulcans cut the lead back to one at 24-23.  A Vulcan hitting error gave the Griffins the win 25-23.

Bisignani led the Griffins with 11 kills.  She also added 5 blocks.  Farian finished the match with 8 kills, 6 blocks, 6 digs and 2 aces.  Katie Wenson, Livorse and Murray each added 7 kills.  Wenson added 4 blocks and Murray finished with 34 assists, 8 digs and 3 blocks.  Mary Baich had a match high 27 digs.

The Griffins return to action this weekend when they travel to Clarion on Friday evening and IUP on Saturday afternoon.
