Seton Hill began its final road trip of the season with a matchup with Clarion on Friday evening. The Griffins forced a winner take all match on Saturday at IUP with a 3-1 win over Clarion. With the win, the Griffins improve to 22-5 overall and 14-3 in PSAC play.
The Griffins will take on the Crimson Hawks on Saturday with the PSAC Southwest Division title and a possible PSAC regular season championship on the line.
The Griffins got off to a good start in the first set, taking an early 5-1 lead. After a Hannah Moeller ace, the Griffins built a 12-8 lead. Clarion battled back to take a 19-17 lead. The Griffins then ran off a 4-0 run to take a 21-19 lead over the Golden Eagles. A block from Maggie Murray and Leah Bisignani ended a long rally and gave SHU a 23-20 lead. Bisignani ended the set with a kill and SHU took a 1-0 lead with a 25-21 first set win.
SHU jumped out to a 10-7 in the second set. A kill from Bisignani and a Clarion hitting error gave SHU a 14-9 lead and forced a Golden Eagle timeout. After SHU took an 18-12 lead, the Golden Eagles went on a 3-0 run forcing a SHU timeout. The Griffins responded with a kill from Farian and a CU hitting error to push their lead back to five at 20-15. SHU took a 2-0 lead over the Golden Eagles with a 25-16 second set win.
Clarion jumped out to a 6-1 lead in the third set behind a jump serve that led to two aces and a SHU timeout. A Farian kill ended the CU run. Back to back kills from Bisignani cut the Eagles led to 13-12 midway thru the set. Clarion retook an 18-14 lead over the Griffins. After Clarion led 23-18, a kill from Bisignani and an ace from Farian cut the Eagles lead to 23-20. Clarion trimmed the lead to 2-1 with a 25-21 third set win.
The Griffins responded with a quick 4-0 start in the fourth set. Clarion battled back to take an 11-8 lead. A kill from Jillian Livorse ended the Golden Eagle run. A kill from Katie Wenson and back to back aces from Livorse tied the set at 13. In a back and forth battle, Clarion took a 20-19 lead forcing Coach Hall to take a timeout. Bisignani tied the set at 20 with a kill. A block from Murray and Wenson followed by a Bisignani kill gave SHU a match point at 24-23. Mary Baich ended the set with an ace giving SHU the match 3-1.
Leah Bisignani led the Griffins with 20 kills. Katie Wenson and Viktoria Farian each added 10 kills. Bisignani added 5 blocks. Maggie Murray finished with 48 assists and 4 blocks. Mary Baich added 19 digs.
