Senior running back
Jarvis McClam had a senior day to remember as he set a new school record for rushing yards in a game as the Griffins played their final home game of the season against Slippery Rock on Saturday afternoon at Offutt Field. McClam would be the lone bright spot for the Griffins as they surrendered 795 yards of total offense in a 77-38 loss to the Rock. SHU falls to 0-10 overall on the season and finished PSAC West play with an 0-7 mark.
McClam topped Antwarn Jones's school record of 253 yards rushing with a 291 yard rushing performance in his final home game. He scored on runs of 75, 77 and 68 yards for his three touchdowns.
Slippery Rock took the opening kickoff and went 58 yards in eight plays to take a 7-0 lead. It did not take the Griffins long to respond as McClam took the first play up the gut untouched for a 75 yard touchdown run to tie the score at seven. The Griffin defense forced a turnover on downs on their next possession but the offense went three and out. The Rock then marched 83 yards in eight plays to retake a 14-7 lead with 3:51 left in the quarter.
The Rock extended their lead to 21-7 on their first drive of the second quarter. The Griffins were able to drive all the way to the Rock 31 yard line but decided to punt on fourth down.
Matt Stewart pinned the Rock at their own three yard line but a 97 yard drive helped extend the Rock lead to 28-7 midway thru the quarter. SHU answered back with a one yard run from
Evan Byrd to cut the Rock lead to 28-14 with 47 seconds to play in the half. SRU needed just 37 seconds to score before the half and take a 35-14 advantage into the locker room.
Seton Hill took the opening kick of the second half and moved to the Rock 21 yard line before settling for a 38 yard field goal from
Santiago Henao that cut the lead to 35-17. After a Rock touchdown, SHU answered right back with a 33 yard touchdown pass from
Christian Strong to
Brian Ingram to trimmed the Rock lead to 42-24 with 8:55 to play in the quarter. Slippery Rock then scored the next three touchdowns to build their lead to 63-24. McClam then scored from 77 yards out to cut the Rock's lead to 63-31 after three quarters.
Slippery Rock scored on their first two possessions of the fourth quarter to take a 77-31 lead. McClam capped the scoring with a 68 yard touchdown run.
The teams combined for 60 first downs (Rock 40-20) and 1,428 yards of total offense (Rock 795-633).
Strong finished the day 24-37 for 333 yards and 1 touchdown. McClam finished the day with 291 yards on 11 carries and 3 touchdowns.

SHU will close out the season next weekend as they travel to Shippensburg for a 1 PM kickoff.
