Seton Hill took on host and nationally ranked West Liberty on Saturday evening in the second game for the Griffins in the PSAC/MEC Challenge. West Liberty scored more than 50 points in each half and held the Griffins to under 40 in route to a 107-69 win. SHU falls to 1-1 on the season while the Hilltoppers improve to 2-0.
For the second night in a row, the Griffins jumped out to an early lead, this one a 7-2 advantage on five points from Trevor Blondin. Two free throws from Spencer Casson gave the Griffins their final lead of the contest at 9-7. West Liberty then went on an 11-0 run over a four minute stretch to take an 18-9 lead with just over 14 minutes to play in the first half. SHU was able to get back to within seven at 33-26 on a Blondin jumper with 5:45 to play in the half. West Liberty closed the half on an 18-8 run to take a 51-34 halftime lead.
The Griffins got to within 13 points on a Brandon Alston jumper just over four minutes into the half but the Hilltoppers were able to pull away in the second half, extending their lead to as many as 39 before settling for a 38 point win.
Blondin again led the Griffins in scoring, this time scoring 18 points. Anthony Karabotsos was the only other Griffin in double figures with 10 points. Spencer Casson and Fernando Salsamendi each tossed in 8 points.
SHU will return to action on Wednesday evening when they host Ohio Dominican at 7 PM.
