SHU Picks Up Key PSAC Road Win

The Griffin men's soccer team made the trip to central PA needing a PSAC road victory at Lock Haven on Saturday afternoon.  SHU got that key road win after a 3-2 victory against the Bald Eagles.  SHU improves to 6-5-1 overall and 3-3 in PSAC action while the Bald Eagles fall to 6-4-3 overall and 3-3-1 in PSAC play.

It did not take the Griffins long to get on the scoreboard.  Henrik Berg scored just 2:35 into the contest giving the Griffins a 1-0 lead.  Berg finished a thru ball from Alex Dyson and finished far post for the game's first goal.  The Griffins carried that 1-0 lead into the halftime break.  SHU held a 3-2 advantage in shots in the half.

Lock Haven tied the score in the 67th minute.  Berg answered less than two minutes later with a goal off a free kick to give the Griffins a 2-1 lead.  With 2:23 to play in the game, Tom Urquhart broke away on a breakaway and beat the keeper far post to give SHU a 3-1 lead.  Just a minute later, the Griffins were called for a foul in the box and the Bald Eagles scored on the penalty kick to cut the lead to 3-2.

Jacin Smith finished with 3 saves in net for the victory.

SHU will travel to take on the University of the District of Columbia on Tuesday afternoon in a non conference matchup.
