Win Streak Hits Four After Five Set Win

Seton Hill ran its winning streak to four after a five set victory over the University of Charleston on Tuesday evening in the McKenna Center.  SHU improves to 17-4 overall after the non conference win while the Golden Eagles drop to 10-12 overall.

Charleston scored the first nine points of the match before the Griffins finally got on the scoreboard.  SHU used a 4-0 run to cut the Charleston lead to 11-8 but then gave up a 5-0 run to allow the Golden Eagles to take a 16-8 lead.  Later in the set, SHU used a 6-1 run to trim the lead back to 21-18.  Charleston responded with a 3-0 run to take a 24-18 lead before winning the first set by a 25-20 score.  SHU hit -.053 in the set with 12 hitting errors.

The Griffins took an early 6-3 lead in the second set with two kills each from Sidney Chapman and Leah Bisignani.  Charleston took advantage of three Griffin errors to take an 8-6 lead.  SHU took the lead for good in the set on a Rachel Satira kill and Jillian Livorse ace that gave them a 16-14 lead.  A kill from Katie Wenson tied the match at one after a 25-23 SHU win.

SHU took an early 10-3 lead in the third set thanks to seven attack errors from the Golden Eagles.  The Griffins cruised in that set to an easy 25-15 win and a 2-1 lead in the match.

The fourth set was very tightly played with neither team holding more than a two point advantage.  Charleston tied the match at two with a 25-23 fourth set win.

The Griffins built an early 7-2 lead in the fifth set, forcing the Golden Eagles to burn both of their timeouts early in the set.  Maggie Murray had a kill and a solo block during the early run.  A kill from Satira and a block from Satira and Wenson gave SHU a 12-8 lead late in the set.  After Charleston tried to call a timeout they did not have, the Griffins closed out the match with two aces from Livorse.

Leah Bisignani led the Griffins with 16 kills and 9 blocks.  Viktoria Farian had another double double with 12 kills and 13 digs.  Maggie Murray added 8 kills, 42 assists, 10 digs, a block and an ace.  Katie Wenson, Jillian Livorse and Rachel Satira each finished with 7 kills.  Livorse added 6 blocks and 4 aces.

Seton Hill returns to action this weekend when they travel to Lock Haven and Pitt Johnstown for PSAC Crossovers.
