Seton Hill ran its winning streak to four after a five set victory over the University of Charleston on Tuesday evening in the McKenna Center. SHU improves to 17-4 overall after the non conference win while the Golden Eagles drop to 10-12 overall.
Charleston scored the first nine points of the match before the Griffins finally got on the scoreboard. SHU used a 4-0 run to cut the Charleston lead to 11-8 but then gave up a 5-0 run to allow the Golden Eagles to take a 16-8 lead. Later in the set, SHU used a 6-1 run to trim the lead back to 21-18. Charleston responded with a 3-0 run to take a 24-18 lead before winning the first set by a 25-20 score. SHU hit -.053 in the set with 12 hitting errors.
The Griffins took an early 6-3 lead in the second set with two kills each from
Sidney Chapman and
Leah Bisignani. Charleston took advantage of three Griffin errors to take an 8-6 lead. SHU took the lead for good in the set on a
Rachel Satira kill and
Jillian Livorse ace that gave them a 16-14 lead. A kill from
Katie Wenson tied the match at one after a 25-23 SHU win.
SHU took an early 10-3 lead in the third set thanks to seven attack errors from the Golden Eagles. The Griffins cruised in that set to an easy 25-15 win and a 2-1 lead in the match.
The fourth set was very tightly played with neither team holding more than a two point advantage. Charleston tied the match at two with a 25-23 fourth set win.
The Griffins built an early 7-2 lead in the fifth set, forcing the Golden Eagles to burn both of their timeouts early in the set.
Maggie Murray had a kill and a solo block during the early run. A kill from Satira and a block from Satira and Wenson gave SHU a 12-8 lead late in the set. After Charleston tried to call a timeout they did not have, the Griffins closed out the match with two aces from Livorse.
Leah Bisignani led the Griffins with 16 kills and 9 blocks.
Viktoria Farian had another double double with 12 kills and 13 digs.
Maggie Murray added 8 kills, 42 assists, 10 digs, a block and an ace.
Katie Wenson,
Jillian Livorse and
Rachel Satira each finished with 7 kills. Livorse added 6 blocks and 4 aces.
Seton Hill returns to action this weekend when they travel to Lock Haven and Pitt Johnstown for PSAC Crossovers.
