Seton Hill played their second consecutive overtime road contest at Clarion on Monday evening. This time the Griffins were able to come out on the winning end of an overtime contest with an 81-77 victory over the Golden Eagles. Eight Griffins scored at least eight points in the win. SHU improves to 7-6 overall and 4-5 in PSAC play.
The first six minutes of the first half were tightly contested with two ties and six lead changes. After the score was tied at 11 at the 14 minute mark, the Griffins went on an 8-0 run on a basket from
Spencer Casson and back to back threes from
Noah Davis and
Fernando Salsamendi to take a 19-11 lead with 10:57 to play in the half. After Clarion cut the Griffins lead to four, SHU used buckets from
Nathan Davis &
Milenko Predic to push their lead to 29-21 with 6:14 to play in the half. Clarion fought back to tie the score at 29 before
Brandon Alston's bucket put SHU back ahead 31-29 with 3:46 to play. SHU took a 35-34 lead into the halftime break.
The Griffins scored the first five points of the second half to take a 40-34 lead early in the half. Predic's three pointer gave SHU their largest lead of the game at eleven, 52-41, with 11:30 left in the half. SHU was able to build upon their lead and held a 59-45 lead with 5:41 to go in the half. Two free throws from Salsamendi pushed the lead to 61-48 with 4:21 to play.
Trevor Lecuona hit one of two free throws with 2:09 remaining to give SHU a 65-57 advantage. Clarion scored the final eight points of the half to send the game to overtime.
Lecuona's three pointer and steal and layin gave SHU the early 71-67 lead in overtime. Clarion hit a three and two free throws to take a one point lead before Alston's two free throws gave SHU a 73-72 lead with 3:02 to play. Four more free throws extended the SHU lead to 77-72 with 2:16 to go. Clarion got to within two points twice down the stretch but the Griffins closed out the game at the free throw line.
Milenko Predic and
Fernando Salsamendi led the Griffins with 13 points each.
Nathan Davis also reached double figures with 10 points.
Tyler Bowling and
Trevor Lecuona each added 9 points and
Noah Davis,
Spencer Casson and
Brandon Alston each reached 8 points.
SHU returns home on Wednesday when they host Mercyhurst at 7:30 PM.
