Early Goals Doom Griffins In Loss To Mercyhurst

GREENSBURG, Pa. - Three early goals by the visitors proved to be too much to overcome as the Seton Hill University men's soccer team fell by a score of 5-2 to Mercyhurst in Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference action on Saturday afternoon at Dick's Sporting Goods Field.

Seton Hill slips to 4-4 overall and 1-2 in the PSAC. Mercyhurst improves to 5-2-1 overall and 4-1 in conference play.

Mercyhurst pulled ahead quickly in the first half, scoring goals in the 8th, 10th, and 16th minutes. Seton Hill got on the board when a Laker defenseman touched the ball inside of the penalty box, Harry Beattie took advantage to get the Griffins back in the game.

In the second half, Joe Smith's pass from inside of the box found Tom Urquhart's head and pulled SHU to within one, 3-2, in the 59th minute. However, the Lakers would answer with a goal of their own just seconds later to give Mercyhurst a 4-2 lead. The Lakers would eventually tack on another insurance goal in the 62nd minute.

For the game, Mercyhurst outshot SHU by a 13-12 margin (6-5 on-goal). The two teams were even at 4 apiece when it came to corner kicks. Seton Hill's Jacin Smith had one save in the match, while Mercyhurst's Alex Brems grabbed three.
