Seton Hill hosted West Chester on Friday evening as they opened PSAC play. SHU took the first set before dropping the second set to tie the match at one. The Griffins responded with two straight wins in the third and fourth set for a 3-1 victory over the Golden Rams. SHU improves to 9-4 overall and 1-0 in PSAC play while West Chester drops to 10-2 overall and 0-1 in PSAC play.
The Griffins took an early 5-3 lead in the first set only to see the Golden Rams go on a 13-4 run to take a 16-9 lead. The Griffins then ran off seven straight points on kills from
Jenna Sassack,
Cassie Hausfeld,
Jillian Livorse and
Maggie Murray to tie the match at 16. WCU scored three straight to take a 21-19 lead only to see SHU run off four straight points on blocks from Livorse and Bisignani, a kill from Murray and a block from Bisignani and
Rachel Satira. The Rams tied the set at 23 before a kill from Bisignani and an ace from
Mary Baich won the set by a 25-23 score.
West Chester again used a run in the second set to take an 10-7 lead. SHU battled back to take a 13-12 lead before WCU scored 7 of 8 points to take control of the set. The Rams took the set with a 25-21 victory to tie the match at one set a piece.
SHU came out fast in the third set taking a quick 10-6 lead and forcing a WCU timeout. Two kills from Hausfeld and Bisignani led the offense in the early part of the set. SHU built leads of 15-12 and extended their lead to 23-16 before closing out the set with a kill from Sassack giving SHU a 25-21 third set win.
The Griffins were able to close out the Rams in the fourth set. West Chester led 16-13 but a 9-0 Griffin run sent the Griffins to the win.
Leah Bisignani led the Griffins with 16 kills and 6 blocks.
Cassie Hausfeld finished with 12 kills.
Jillian Livorse added 9 kills.
Taylor Sabol added 21 assists in a substitute role.
Hannah Moeller finished with a game high 28 digs.
SHU returns to action on Saturday when they host Cheyney at 12 PM.
