After playing to a 0-0 scoreless tie at the half, SHU scored twice in the second half for a 2-0 PSAC road win at Clarion on Wednesday evening. SHU used a penalty kick goal and followed that with a late goal for the 2-0 victory. SHU improves to 2-3-2 overall and in PSAC play.
The Griffin outshot the Eagles 9-5 in the first half but could not beat the Clarion keeper who made 3 saves in the first half.
Just over four minutes into the second half, SHU drew a penalty in the box and
Emily LoPresti converted the penalty kick to give SHU the 1-0 lead. Just over a minute later, SHU returned the favor with a foul in the box. But this time Griffin keeper
Jessica Neill came up big, making the save, preserving the 1-0 Griffin lead. The Griffins continued to fire at the Eagle net with six shots over a ten minute stretch but could not add onto their lead. SHU was finally able to add on after a red card on Clarion dropped them to 10 players on the field.
Melanie Renda dribbled thru the Clarion defense and beat the keeper to extend the SHU lead to 2-0 with a goal in the 86th minute.
SHU outshot Clarion 15-8 in the second half.
Jessica Neill earned her third shutout of the season, making 5 saves.
SHU continues PSAC play on Saturday when they host Mercyhurst.
