The volleyball team ended its Wheeling Jesuit Tournament with a pair of matches on Saturday. SHU took on defending champion Wheeling Jesuit in the first contest then battled Fairmont State in their second match of the day. SHU fell in three to Wheeling Jesuit then suffered a tough five set loss to Fairmont State. SHU is now 8-4 on the season.
Wheeling Jesuit took the first set by a 25-14 score. The Cardinals followed that with a 25-12 and 25-13 win for the sweep.
Leah Bisignani led the Griffins with 8 kills in the loss.
Cassie Hausfeld and
Katie Wenson each added 4 kills.
Caylene McKinney led the Griffins with 7 digs.
The Griffins opened the Fairmont State match with a 25-10 first set win. FSU rallied for a 25-23 win in the second set. The Falcons won the third set by a score of 32-30. SHU responded to tie the match at two with a 25-16 fourth set win. Fairmont State won the match with a 15-9 fifth set win.
Cassie Hausfeld led the Griffins with 21 kills.
Rachel Satira added 15 kills and Bisignani finished the match with 11. Hausfeld and Bisignani each added 4 blocks.
Maggie Murray had 28 assists and
Brynn Fleury finished with 24.
Mary Baich led the Griffins with 17 digs.
SHU will open up PSAC play on Friday when they host West Chester at 7 PM.
