In their first match of the season, the Seton Hill women's tennis team defeated Daemen College (N.Y.) by a 6-3 score.
Freshman
Diana Carvajalino won by a 6-0, 6-1 score in her first match as a Griffin as the number one flight. The second singles match was played by her older sister, junior
Paula Carvajalino, who lost her match in a close contest, 2-6, 6-4, 10-8. The third singles match was played by another freshman,
Jenna Bailey, who won her match by a 6-2, 6-0 score. The fourth singles match was played by a sophomore,
Madison DeBone, who won her match by a 6-0, 6-4 score. The fifth and final singles match was played by another freshman,
Ana Salazar, who won her match by a 6-4, 6-4 score. The three freshmen went 3-0 in their debuts for Seton Hill. The Griffins forfeited the sixth singles.
The first doubles match was played by the two Carvajalino sisters, Paula and Diana, who won their match 8-4. The second doubles match was won by
Madison DeBone and
Jenna Bailey with a score of 8-0. The Griffins the third doubles match.
Head coach Kimberly Kissell noted, "I think our team played well today. It was our first match so we had some nerves to contend with but getting this win will give us confidence for our next matches."
The Griffins return to action on Saturday, September 17
th as they travel to face Division III power Carnegie Mellon in Pittsburgh at 2 pm. CMU defeated the Griffins 9-0 last season, but Seton Hill has four new freshmen in action. Live video can be found at CMU's athletic website at
