Game Recap: Field Hockey |

Field Hockey Falls in OT, 2-1

The Griffins hosted Indiana (PA) in their 2016 home opener on Monday afternoon.  Seton Hill battled back to tie the score at one in the second half but saw IUP score the game winner just over two minutes into the first overtime period for a 2-1 win.  SHU drops to 0-5 overall on the season.

IUP held a big advantage in the first half as they outshot the Griffins by a 6-0 margin.  The Crimson Hawks found the back of the net on one of those shots 9:20 into the first half.  Griffin keeper Jane Eberhardt recorded 3 saves in the half to keep the score at 1-0 entering the halftime break.

The second half was evenly played with SHU holding a 5-4 adavantage in shots and both teams having 5 penalty corners.  SHU evened the score in the 43rd minute when Kelci McCoy and Molly Childress attacked on a break and McCoy hit Childress who moved around the keeper and put the ball into the back of the cage to tie the score at one.  SHU had a few shots after penalty corners to try and take the lead but could not get any of them through on goal.  Neither team was able to score sending the game into the sudden death overtime periods.

IUP did not take long to score as they ended the game 2:04 into the first overtime period with the game winning goal.

Eberhardt finished with 5 saves in cage.  Childress finished with 2 shots in the game.

SHU will look for their first win this Saturday when they host Mansfield at 12 PM.
