Seton Hill made the trip across the state to take on Millersville in a PSAC crossover matchup on Saturday afternoon looking to start the season with a 2-0 start. The Griffin offense put up 38 points and the defense forced two turnovers in the fourth quarter to lead the Griffins to a 38-24 win. SHU is now 2-0 on the season and 2-0 for the first time since the 2008 season when they opened the season with seven straight wins.
Millersville took the opening kickoff and just needed just two plays to take a quick 7-0 lead on a 39 yard touchdown pass.
Michael Benton-Ferguson returned the kickoff 57 yards to the Millersville 25 yard line and four plays later
Jarvis McClam scored from 25 yards out to tie the score at 7 with 13:23 left in the first quarter. After forcing a Marauder punt, the Griffins drove all the way to the Millersville four yard line before turning the ball over. Late in the first quarter,
Santiago Henao connected on a 25 yard field goal to give the Griffins a 10-7 lead after one quarter.
The Marauders retook the lead early in the second quarter on a 45 yard touchdown pass, giving them a 14-10 lead. SHU responded with a scoring drive of their own, capped by a one yard TD run on an option play by McClam off a pitch from
Christian Strong. Both teams failed on fourth down conversions and the Griffins took a 17-14 lead into the halftime break.
Seton Hill opened the scoring in the second half on their first possession where they went 59 yards in 7 plays capped by a 25 yard TD pass from Strong to
Ardell Brown. SHU led 24-14 early in the second half. Neither team scored on their next drive but the Marauders cut the SHU lead to 24-21 on a 16 yard TD run with 6:28 left in the third period. The Griffins needed just one play to respond. Strong hit McClam on a wheel route and McClam raced 83 yards for the touchdown pass to give SHU a 31-21 lead.
On the first play of the fourth quarter, Millersville connected on a field goal to trim the lead to 31-24.
Khalil Howard scored from two yards out to extend the SHU lead to 38-24 with 9:43 to play in the quarter. The Griffin defense then forced two fumbles on the next two Marauders possessions to give the Griffins the ball and allow them to run out the clock for the victory.
Seton Hill had a 25-18 lead in first downs and outgained the Marauders 536-329. SHU rushed for 213 yards in the win.
Christian Strong was 25-38 for 323 yards and 2 touchdowns.
Jarvis McClam caught 8 balls for 165 yards and 1 touchdown. McClam also rushed for 93 yards and 2 touchdowns.
David Gutzmore recorded 10 tackles on the day.

Alex Attia added 7 tackles.
Seton Hill will return to action next Saturday when they host Kutztown. Kickoff is set for 3 PM.
